तस्य शापस्य शान्त्य अर्थं परददौ पन्नगॊत्तमः सवसारम ऋषये तस्मै सुव्रताय तपस्विने ॥ १-१३-३६ ॥
'To mitigate the effect of that curse, the chief of serpents (Vasuki) bestowed his sister, Savasara, upon the virtuous and ascetic Rishi.'॥ 1-13-36 ॥
english translation
tasya zApasya zAntya arthaM paradadau pannagòttamaH savasArama RSaye tasmai suvratAya tapasvine ॥ 1-13-36 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस च तां परतिजग्राह विधिदृष्टेन कर्मणा आस्तीकॊ नाम पुत्रश च तस्यां जज्ञे महात्मनः ॥ १-१३-३७ ॥
'The Rishi wedded her according to the rites ordained (in the scriptures), and from them was born a high-souled son called Astika.'॥ 1-13-37 ॥
english translation
sa ca tAM paratijagrAha vidhidRSTena karmaNA AstIkò nAma putraza ca tasyAM jajJe mahAtmanaH ॥ 1-13-37 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतपस्वी च महात्मा च वेदवेदाङ्गपारगः समः सर्वस्य लॊकस्य पितृमातृभयापहः ॥ १-१३-३८ ॥
'Astika, the ascetic, was both a great sage and an austere practitioner, well-versed in the Vedas and their ancillary subjects. He was impartial and compassionate, relieving everyone from the fear of parents and mothers.'॥ 1-13-38 ॥

tapasvI ca mahAtmA ca vedavedAGgapAragaH samaH sarvasya lòkasya pitRmAtRbhayApahaH ॥ 1-13-38 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथ कालस्य महतः पाण्डवेयॊ नराधिपः आजहार महायज्ञं सर्पसत्रम इति शरुतिः ॥ १-१३-३९ ॥
'Then, after a long space of time, a king descending from the Pandava line celebrated a great sacrifice known as the Snake sacrifice.'॥ 1-13-39 ॥
english translation
atha kAlasya mahataH pANDaveyò narAdhipaH AjahAra mahAyajJaM sarpasatrama iti zarutiH ॥ 1-13-39 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्मिन परवृत्ते सत्रे तु सर्पाणाम अन्तकाय वै मॊचयाम आस तं शापम आस्तीकः सुमहायशाः ॥ १-१३-४० ॥
'After that sacrifice had commenced for the destruction of the snakes, Astika delivered the Nagas, viz., his brothers and maternal uncles and other snakes (from a fiery death).'॥ 1-13-40 ॥
