[वै] तथेत्य उक्त्वा तु ते सर्वे भीष्मम ऊचुः पितामहम बराह्मणस्य वचस तथ्यं तच च कर्मविशेषवत ।। १-१२२-२१ ।।

sanskrit

'Vaisampayana continued, "Agreeing to this, they all went to Bhishma, their grandsire, and conveyed the Brahmana's words, along with a detailed account of his extraordinary feat."' ।। 1-122-21 ।।

english translation

[vai] tathetya uktvA tu te sarve bhISmama UcuH pitAmahama barAhmaNasya vacasa tathyaM taca ca karmavizeSavata || 1-122-21 ||

भीष्मः शरुत्वा कुमाराणां दरॊणं तं परत्यजानत युक्तरूपः स हि गुरुर इत्य एवम अनुचिन्त्य च ।। १-१२२-२२ ।।

sanskrit

'Hearing the words of the princes, Bhishma recognized Drona. Considering him to be the master he should be, Bhishma thought, "Indeed, he is my teacher," and thus understood.' ।। 1-122-22 ।।

english translation

bhISmaH zarutvA kumArANAM daròNaM taM paratyajAnata yuktarUpaH sa hi gurura itya evama anucintya ca || 1-122-22 ||

अथैनम आनीय तदा सवयम एव सुसत्कृतम परिपप्रच्छ निपुणं भीष्मः शस्त्रभृतां वरः हेतुम आगमने तस्य दरॊणः सर्वं नयवेदयत ।। १-१२२-२३ ।।

'Then, bringing Drona himself, who was already well-received, Bhishma, the best among wielders of weapons, questioned the proficient one in detail. Drona explained everything regarding his arrival.' ।। 1-122-23 ।।

athainama AnIya tadA savayama eva susatkRtama paripapraccha nipuNaM bhISmaH zastrabhRtAM varaH hetuma Agamane tasya daròNaH sarvaM nayavedayata || 1-122-23 ||

'I, Achyuta, have come to you, O great sage Agniveshya, desiring to learn the science of weaponry before the knowledge of archery.' ।। 1-122-24 ।।

'Sir, in the past, I approached the great sage Agnivesa, seeking to acquire his weapons and eager to learn the science of warfare. Devoted to serving my teacher, I lived with him for many years, adopting the humble guise of a Brahmachari, with matted locks adorning my head.' ।। 1-122-25 ।।
