एष मुष्टिर इषीकाणां मयास्त्रेणाभिमन्त्रितः अस्य वीर्यं निरीक्षध्वं यद अन्यस्य न विद्यते ॥ १-१२२-१६ ॥
'Thus addressed, Drona, smiling, replied to the Bharata princes, "I will imbue this handful of long grass with the power of weapons using my mantras. Observe as I demonstrate."' ॥ 1-122-16 ॥
english translation
eSa muSTira iSIkANAM mayAstreNAbhimantritaH asya vIryaM nirIkSadhvaM yada anyasya na vidyate ॥ 1-122-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवेत्स्यामीषीकया वीटां ताम इषीकाम अथान्यया ताम अन्यया समायॊगॊ वीटाया गरहणे मम ॥ १-१२२-१७ ॥
'Behold these blades of grass, which possess virtues that other weapons do not! I will pierce the ball with one of these blades, then pierce that blade with another, and that one with a third. In this way, I shall create a chain to retrieve the ball.' ॥ 1-122-17 ॥

vetsyAmISIkayA vITAM tAma iSIkAma athAnyayA tAma anyayA samAyògò vITAyA garahaNe mama ॥ 1-122-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतद अपश्यन कुमारास ते विस्मयॊत्फुल्ललॊचनाः अवेष्क्य चॊद्धृतां वीटां वीटा वेद्धारम अब्रुवन ॥ १-१२२-१८ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, "Drona then did exactly as he had said. The princes were all amazed, their eyes widening with delight."' ॥ 1-122-18 ॥

tada apazyana kumArAsa te vismayòtphullalòcanAH aveSkya còddhRtAM vITAM vITA veddhArama abruvana ॥ 1-122-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअभिवादयामहे बरह्मन नैतद अन्येषु विद्यते कॊ ऽसि कं तवाभिजानीमॊ वयं किं करवामहे ॥ १-१२२-१९ ॥
'We offer our respects, O Brahmana! Such skill is not found in others. Who are you? How should we recognize you? What can we do for you?' ॥ 1-122-19 ॥

abhivAdayAmahe barahmana naitada anyeSu vidyate kò 'si kaM tavAbhijAnImò vayaM kiM karavAmahe ॥ 1-122-19 ॥

'Thus addressed, Drona replied to the princes, "Go to Bhishma and describe my appearance and skills to him. The wise and mighty one will recognize me."' ॥ 1-122-20 ॥
