इदम अत्यद्भुतं चासीज जातमात्रे वृकॊदरे यद अङ्कात पतितॊ मातुः शिलां गात्रैर अचूर्णयत ॥ १-११४-११ ॥
'I must narrate to you, O Bharata, another remarkable incident that transpired after the birth of Vrikodara (Bhima). As he descended from his mother's lap onto the mountainous terrain, the impact shattered the stone beneath him, yet his infant body remained unharmed.' ॥ 1-114-11 ॥

कुन्ती वयाघ्रभयॊद्विग्ना सहसॊत्पतिता किल नान्वबुध्यत संसुप्तम उत्सङ्गे सवे वृकॊदरम ॥ १-११४-१२ ॥
'And he fell from his mother's lap because Kunti, startled by a tiger, abruptly stood up, unaware of the sleeping child on her lap. As she rose, the infant, with a body as resilient as a thunderbolt, descended onto the mountainous terrain, shattering into a hundred pieces the rocky mass upon which he landed.' ॥ 1-114-12 ॥

ततः स वर्ज संघातः कुमारॊ ऽभयपतद गिरौ पतता तेन शतधा शिला गात्रैर विचूर्णिता तां शिलां चूर्णितां दृष्ट्वा पाण्डुर विस्मयम आगमत ॥ १-११४-१३ ॥
'Thereafter, untouched by any obstacle, the young boy fearlessly descended upon the mountain. As he fell, he shattered the stone into a hundred pieces with his limbs. Witnessing the shattered stone, Pandu was filled with wonder.' ॥ 1-114-13 ॥

यस्मिन्न अहनि भीमस तु जज्ञे भरतसत्तम दुर्यॊधनॊ ऽपि तत्रैव परजज्ञे वसुधाधिप ॥ १-११४-१४ ॥
'Observing this, Pandu was greatly astonished. Interestingly, it was on the same day that Vrikodara was born, that Duryodhana, who later became the sovereign of the entire earth, also celebrated his birthday, O best of Bharatas.' ॥ 1-114-14 ॥

जाते वृकॊदरे पाण्डुर इदं भूयॊ ऽनवचिन्तयत कथं नु मे वरः पुत्रॊ लॊकश्रेष्ठॊ भवेद इति ॥ १-११४-१५ ॥
'After Vrikodara's birth, Pandu resumed his contemplation, pondering, 'How can I be blessed with a supremely exceptional son destined for global renown?' ॥ 1-114-15 ॥
