[व] एवम उक्तस तया राजा तां देवीं पुनर अब्रवीत धर्मविद धर्मसंयुक्तम इदं वचनम उत्तमम ॥ १-११३-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana narrated, 'Upon hearing his beloved wife's words, King Pandu, who was thoroughly versed in the principles of morality, responded with these words filled with virtuous significance.' ॥ 1-113-1 ॥
english translation
[va] evama uktasa tayA rAjA tAM devIM punara abravIta dharmavida dharmasaMyuktama idaM vacanama uttamama ॥ 1-113-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवम एतत पुरा कुन्ति वयुषिताश्वश चकार ह यथा तवयॊक्तं कल्याणि स हय आसीद अमरॊपमः ॥ १-११३-२ ॥
'O Kunti, what you have said is entirely accurate. Vyushitaswa of old did exactly as you described. He was truly equal to the celestial beings.' ॥ 1-113-2 ॥

evama etata purA kunti vayuSitAzvaza cakAra ha yathA tavayòktaM kalyANi sa haya AsIda amaròpamaH ॥ 1-113-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथ तव इमं परवक्ष्यामि धर्मं तव एतं निबॊध मे पुराणम ऋषिभिर दृष्टं धर्मविद्भिर महात्मभिः ॥ १-११३-३ ॥
'However, I will now impart to you the ancient practices as indicated by the illustrious Rishis, who were thoroughly versed in every principle of morality.' ॥ 1-113-3 ॥

atha tava imaM paravakSyAmi dharmaM tava etaM nibòdha me purANama RSibhira dRSTaM dharmavidbhira mahAtmabhiH ॥ 1-113-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअनावृताः किल पुरा सत्रिय आसन वरानने कामचारविहारिण्यः सवतन्त्राश चारुलॊचने ॥ १-११३-४ ॥
'O charming one, in the past, women with beautiful eyes and sweet smiles were not confined to their homes, nor were they dependent on husbands or other relatives.' ॥ 1-113-4 ॥

anAvRtAH kila purA satriya Asana varAnane kAmacAravihAriNyaH savatantrAza cArulòcane ॥ 1-113-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतासां वयुच्चरमाणानां कौमारात सुभगे पतीन नाधर्मॊ ऽभूद वरारॊहे स हि धर्मः पुराभवत ॥ १-११३-५ ॥
'They used to move about freely, enjoying themselves as they pleased, O one of excellent qualities. They did not then adhere faithfully to their husbands, yet, O handsome one, they were not considered sinful, for that was the sanctioned custom of the times.' ॥ 1-113-5 ॥

tAsAM vayuccaramANAnAM kaumArAta subhage patIna nAdharmò 'bhUda varAròhe sa hi dharmaH purAbhavata ॥ 1-113-5 ॥
