[प] अप्रजस्य महाभागा न दवारं परिचक्षते सवर्गे तेनाभितप्तॊ ऽहम अप्रजस तद बरवीमि वः ।। १-१११-११ ।।

sanskrit

'Pandu responded, "O fortunate ones, it is believed that the childless are barred from entering heaven. Alas! I am childless!"' ।। 1-111-11 ।।

english translation

[pa] aprajasya mahAbhAgA na davAraM paricakSate savarge tenAbhitaptò 'hama aprajasa tada baravImi vaH || 1-111-11 ||

hk transliteration

ऋणैश चतुर्भिः संयुक्ता जायन्ते मनुजा भुवि पितृदेवर्षिमनुजदेयैः शतसहस्रशः ।। १-१११-१२ ।।

sanskrit

'I In affliction I speak unto you! I am afflicted because I have not been able to discharge the debt I owe to my ancestors.' ।। 1-111-12 ।।

english translation

RNaiza caturbhiH saMyuktA jAyante manujA bhuvi pitRdevarSimanujadeyaiH zatasahasrazaH || 1-111-12 ||

hk transliteration

एतानि तु यथाकालं यॊ न बुध्यति मानवः न तस्य लॊकाः सन्तीति धर्मविद्भिः परतिष्ठितम ।। १-१११-१३ ।।

sanskrit

'It is certain that with the dissolution of my body, my ancestors perish! Humans are born on this earth with four debts: those owed to the deceased ancestors, the gods, the Rishis, and other humans. These debts must be discharged as a matter of justice. The wise have declared that those who neglect to pay these debts in due time will find no regions of bliss awaiting them.' ।। 1-111-13 ।।

english translation

etAni tu yathAkAlaM yò na budhyati mAnavaH na tasya lòkAH santIti dharmavidbhiH paratiSThitama || 1-111-13 ||

hk transliteration

यज्ञैश च देवान परीणाति सवाध्यायतपसा मुनीन पुत्रैः शराद्धैश पितॄंश चापि आनृशंस्येन मानवान ।। १-१११-१४ ।।

sanskrit

'The gods are appeased through sacrifices, the sages through study, meditation, and asceticism, the ancestors through progeny and offering funeral cakes, and other humans through leading a compassionate and harmless life.' ।। 1-111-14 ।।

english translation

yajJaiza ca devAna parINAti savAdhyAyatapasA munIna putraiH zarAddhaiza pitRRMza cApi AnRzaMsyena mAnavAna || 1-111-14 ||

hk transliteration

ऋषिदेव मनुष्याणां परिमुक्तॊ ऽसमि धर्मतः पित्र्याद ऋणाद अनिर्मुक्तस तेन तप्ये तपॊधनाः ।। १-१११-१५ ।।

sanskrit

'I have fulfilled my duties towards the sages, deities, and fellow humans as prescribed. However, beyond these three, all others are bound to cease with the end of my life. Oh ascetics, I am still indebted to my ancestors who have passed away.' ।। 1-111-15 ।।

english translation

RSideva manuSyANAM parimuktò 'sami dharmataH pitryAda RNAda anirmuktasa tena tapye tapòdhanAH || 1-111-15 ||
