ततस तां च मृगीं तं च रुक्मपुङ्खैः सुपत्रिभिः निर्बिभेद शरैस तीक्ष्णैः पाण्डुः पञ्चभिर आशुगैः ॥ १-१०९-६ ॥
'Beholding the animals, the monarch pierced them both with five of his sharp and swift arrows winged with golden feathers.' ॥ 1-109-6 ॥
english translation
tatasa tAM ca mRgIM taM ca rukmapuGkhaiH supatribhiH nirbibheda zaraisa tIkSNaiH pANDuH paJcabhira AzugaiH ॥ 1-109-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस च राजन महातेजा ऋषिपुत्रस तपॊधनः भार्यया सह तेजस्वी मृगरूपेण संगतः ॥ १-१०९-७ ॥
'O monarch, that was no deer that Pandu struck at, but Rishi's son of great ascetic merit who was enjoying his mate in the form of a deer.' ॥ 1-109-7 ॥

sa ca rAjana mahAtejA RSiputrasa tapòdhanaH bhAryayA saha tejasvI mRgarUpeNa saMgataH ॥ 1-109-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसंसक्तस तु तया मृग्या मानुषीम ईरयन गिरम कषणेन पतितॊ भूमौ विललापाकुलेन्द्रियः ॥ १-१०९-८ ॥
'Pierced by Pandu while amid intercourse, the deer fell to the ground, emitting cries resembling those of a man, and began to weep bitterly.' ॥ 1-109-8 ॥

saMsaktasa tu tayA mRgyA mAnuSIma Irayana girama kaSaNena patitò bhUmau vilalApAkulendriyaH ॥ 1-109-8 ॥

'The deer then spoke to Pandu, saying, "O king, even men consumed by lust and anger, lacking in reason, and constantly sinful, do not perpetrate such a cruel deed as this."' ॥ 1-109-9 ॥

[mRga] kAmamanyuparItApi buddhyaGga rahitApi ca varjayanti nRzaMsAni pApeSva abhiratA narAH ॥ 1-109-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptन विधिं गरसते परज्ञा परज्ञां तु गरसते विधिः विधिपर्यागतान अर्थान परज्ञा न परतिपद्यते ॥ १-१०९-१० ॥
'Personal judgment does not override the law; rather, the law overrides personal judgment. The wise never approve of anything that goes against the law.' ॥ 1-109-10 ॥

na vidhiM garasate parajJA parajJAM tu garasate vidhiH vidhiparyAgatAna arthAna parajJA na paratipadyate ॥ 1-109-10 ॥
