सहजं कवचं बिभ्रत कुण्डलॊद्द्यॊतिताननः अजायत सुतः कर्णः सर्वलॊकेषु विश्रुतः ।। १-१०४-११ ।।

sanskrit

'And of this connection, there was immediately born a son known all over the world as Karna accounted with natural armor and with face brightened by ear-rings.' ।। 1-104-11 ।।

english translation

sahajaM kavacaM bibhrata kuNDalòddyòtitAnanaH ajAyata sutaH karNaH sarvalòkeSu vizrutaH || 1-104-11 ||

hk transliteration

परादाच च तस्याः कन्यात्वं पुनः स परमद्युतिः दत्त्वा च ददतां शरेष्ठॊ दिवम आचक्रमे ततः ।। १-१०४-१२ ।।

sanskrit

'The valiant Karna, unmatched among all weapon bearers and graced with the splendor of divine lineage, was born. Following his birth, the illustrious deity Tapana restored Pritha's virginity and ascended back to the heavens.' ।। 1-104-12 ।।

english translation

parAdAca ca tasyAH kanyAtvaM punaH sa paramadyutiH dattvA ca dadatAM zareSThò divama Acakrame tataH || 1-104-12 ||

गूहमानापचारं तं बन्धुपक्ष भयात तदा उत्ससर्ज जले कुन्ती तं कुमारं सलक्षणम ।। १-१०४-१३ ।।

sanskrit

'Observing her newborn son, the Vrishni princess was filled with both joy and sorrow. Weighing her options carefully, she decided that concealing her indiscretion was paramount, primarily due to the fear of familial repercussions. Thus, with a heavy heart, she placed her robust and healthy child into a basket and released it onto the river, entrusting its fate to the waters.' ।। 1-104-13 ।।

gUhamAnApacAraM taM bandhupakSa bhayAta tadA utsasarja jale kuntI taM kumAraM salakSaNama || 1-104-13 ||

तम उत्सृष्टं तदा गर्भं राधा भर्ता महायशाः पुत्रत्वे कल्पयाम आस सभार्यः सूतनन्दनः ।। १-१०४-१४ ।।

sanskrit

'Upon discovering the infant floating in the river, the charioteer Adhiratha of great renown, along with his wife Radha, embraced the child as their own. With love and affection, they raised him, bestowing upon him the name Karna, making him the son of a charioteer, despite his divine origin and inherent nobility.' ।। 1-104-14 ।।

english translation

tama utsRSTaM tadA garbhaM rAdhA bhartA mahAyazAH putratve kalpayAma Asa sabhAryaH sUtanandanaH || 1-104-14 ||

hk transliteration

नामधेयं च चक्राते तस्य बालस्य ताव उभौ वसुना सह जातॊ ऽयं वसु षेणॊ भवत्व इति ।। १-१०४-१५ ।।

sanskrit

'And both of them, embracing the child as their own, gave him a name, saying, "As he is born with natural armor ('Kavacha') and earrings ('Kundala'), which are symbols of wealth and prosperity ('Vasus'), let his name be 'Vasusena'." This name signified his connection with divine wealth and attributes, even though his upbringing would be in the humble surroundings of a charioteer's home.' ।। 1-104-15 ।।

nAmadheyaM ca cakrAte tasya bAlasya tAva ubhau vasunA saha jAtò 'yaM vasu SeNò bhavatva iti || 1-104-15 ||
