तस्यै स परददौ मन्त्रम आपद धर्मान्ववेक्षया अभिचाराभिसंयुक्तम अब्रवीच चैव तां मुनिः ।। १-१०४-६ ।।

sanskrit

'Pleased with her devoted service, the sage Durvasa, foreseeing the future hardships arising from a curse that would befall Pandu for his wrongful act of killing a mating deer, bestowed upon her a powerful mantra. This mantra would enable her to summon any celestial being of her choosing to beget children, thus providing a means to mitigate the impending distress.' ।। 1-104-6 ।।

english translation

tasyai sa paradadau mantrama Apada dharmAnvavekSayA abhicArAbhisaMyuktama abravIca caiva tAM muniH || 1-104-6 ||

hk transliteration

यं यं देवं तवम एतेन मन्त्रेणावाहयिष्यसि तस्य तस्य परसादेन पुत्रस तव भविष्यति ।। १-१०४-७ ।।

sanskrit

'With this mantra, whichever deity you invoke, through that deity's grace, you will be blessed with a son.' ।। 1-104-7 ।।

english translation

yaM yaM devaM tavama etena mantreNAvAhayiSyasi tasya tasya parasAdena putrasa tava bhaviSyati || 1-104-7 ||

hk transliteration

तथॊक्ता सा तु विप्रेण तेन कौतूहलात तदा कन्या सती देवम अर्कम आजुहाव यशस्विनी ।। १-१०४-८ ।।

sanskrit

'Thus addressed by the Brahmana, the amiable Kunti (Pritha) became curious, and in her maidenhood summoned the god Arka (Sun).' ।। 1-104-8 ।।

english translation

tathòktA sA tu vipreNa tena kautUhalAta tadA kanyA satI devama arkama AjuhAva yazasvinI || 1-104-8 ||

सा ददर्श तम आयान्तं भास्करं लॊकभावनम विस्मिता चानवद्याङ्गी दृष्ट्वा तन महद अद्भुतम ।। १-१०४-९ ।।

sanskrit

'Upon uttering the mantra, she witnessed the luminous deity, the observer of all in the universe, drawing near. The sight of this remarkable being filled the maiden, flawless in her beauty, with astonishment.' ।। 1-104-9 ।।

english translation

sA dadarza tama AyAntaM bhAskaraM lòkabhAvanama vismitA cAnavadyAGgI dRSTvA tana mahada adbhutama || 1-104-9 ||

परकाशकर्मा तपनस तस्यां गर्भं दधौ ततः अजीजनत ततॊ वीरं सर्वशस्त्रभृतां वरम आमुक्तकवचः शरीमान देवगर्भः शरियावृतः ।। १-१०४-१० ।।

sanskrit

'The radiant Sun, depositing his energy within her, subsequently blessed her with a child. From her was born a hero, the best among all wielders of weapons, adorned with an armor and earrings from birth, radiant and enveloped in glory, a child with divine origins.' ।। 1-104-10 ।।

parakAzakarmA tapanasa tasyAM garbhaM dadhau tataH ajIjanata tatò vIraM sarvazastrabhRtAM varama AmuktakavacaH zarImAna devagarbhaH zariyAvRtaH || 1-104-10 ||
