कुलीना रूपवत्यश च नाथवत्यश च सर्वशः उचिताश चैव संबन्धे ते ऽसमाकं कषत्रियर्षभाः ।। १-१०३-६ ।।

'They are of noble lineage, beautiful in appearance, and have protectors in all respects. They are suitable for alliance with us, the best among Kshatriyas.' ।। 1-103-6 ।।

english translation

kulInA rUpavatyaza ca nAthavatyaza ca sarvazaH ucitAza caiva saMbandhe te 'samAkaM kaSatriyarSabhAH || 1-103-6 ||

मन्ये वरयितव्यास ता इत्य अहं धीमतां वर संतानार्थं कुलस्यास्य यद वा विदुर मन्यसे ।। १-१०३-७ ।।

'I think those maidens should be chosen," said the best of the wise, "for the propagation of our lineage. Or, Vidura, what is your opinion?' ।। 1-103-7 ।।

english translation

manye varayitavyAsa tA itya ahaM dhImatAM vara saMtAnArthaM kulasyAsya yada vA vidura manyase || 1-103-7 ||

[व] भवान पिता भवान माता भवान नः परमॊ गुरुः तस्मात सवयं कुलस्यास्य विचार्य कुरु यद धितम ।। १-१०३-८ ।।

'Upon hearing this, Vidura responded, "You are our father, our mother, and our esteemed teacher. Therefore, consider and decide what is best for our dynasty according to your wisdom."' ।। 1-103-8 ।।

[va] bhavAna pitA bhavAna mAtA bhavAna naH paramò guruH tasmAta savayaM kulasyAsya vicArya kuru yada dhitama || 1-103-8 ||

[व] अथ शुश्राव विप्रेभ्यॊ गान्धारीं सुबलात्मजाम आराध्य वरदं देवं भग नेत्रहरं हरम गान्धारी किल पुत्राणां शतं लेभे वरं शुभा ।। १-१०३-९ ।।

'Vaisampayana continued, 'Soon after, Bhishma heard from the Brahmanas that Gandhari, the gentle daughter of Suvala, having worshipped Hara (Shiva), had obtained from the deity the boon of having a hundred sons.' ।। 1-103-9 ।।

[va] atha zuzrAva viprebhyò gAndhArIM subalAtmajAma ArAdhya varadaM devaM bhaga netraharaM harama gAndhArI kila putrANAM zataM lebhe varaM zubhA || 1-103-9 ||

इति शरुत्वा च तत्त्वेन भीष्मः कुरुपितामहः ततॊ गान्धारराजस्य परेषयाम आस भारत ।। १-१०३-१० ।।

'Upon hearing this, Bhishma, the grandsire of the Kurus, understanding the truth of the matter, then sent a message to the king of Gandhara, O Bharata.' ।। 1-103-10 ।।

iti zarutvA ca tattvena bhISmaH kurupitAmahaH tatò gAndhArarAjasya pareSayAma Asa bhArata || 1-103-10 ||
