स भॊगान विविधान भुञ्जन रत्नानि विविधानि च कथितॊ धृतराष्ट्रस्य विवर्णॊ हरिणः कृशः ।। १-१-९१ ।।

'It was represented to Dhritarashtra that his son, while partaking of various objects of enjoyment and diverse precious things, was becoming meagre, wan, and pale, like a dissatisfied deer.'।। 1-1-91 ।।

sa bhògAna vividhAna bhuJjana ratnAni vividhAni ca kathitò dhRtarASTrasya vivarNò hariNaH kRzaH || 1-1-91 ||

अन्वजानाद अतॊ दयूतं धृतराष्ट्रः सुतप्रियः तच छरुत्वा वासुदेवस्य कॊपः समभवन महान ।। १-१-९२ ।।

'Dhritarashtra, sometime after, out of affection for his son, gave his consent to their playing (with the Pandavas) at dice. And Vasudeva coming to know of this, became exceedingly enraged.'।। 1-1-92 ।।

anvajAnAda atò dayUtaM dhRtarASTraH sutapriyaH taca charutvA vAsudevasya kòpaH samabhavana mahAna || 1-1-92 ||

नातिप्रीति मनाश चासीद विवादांश चान्वमॊदत दयूतादीन अनयान घॊरान परवृद्धांश चाप्य उपैक्षत ।। १-१-९३ ।।

'And being dissatisfied, he did nothing to prevent the disputes, but overlooked the gaming and sundry other horrid unjustifiable transactions arising therefrom.'।। 1-1-93 ।।

'Despite Vidura, Bhishma, Drona, and Kripa, the son of Saradwan, he made the Kshatriyas kill each other in the terrific war that ensued.'।। 1-1-94 ।।
