लॊमहर्षणपुत्र उग्रश्रवाः सूतः पौराणिकॊ नैमिषारण्ये शौनकस्य कुलपतेर दवादशवार्षिके सत्रे ॥ १-१-१ ॥
Ugrasrava, the son of Lomaharshana, surnamed Sauti, well-versed in the Puranas, bending with humility, one day approached the great sages of rigid vows, sitting at their ease, who had attended the twelve years' sacrifice of Saunaka, surnamed Kulapa, in the forest of Naimisha. ॥ 1-1-1 ॥

lòmaharSaNaputra ugrazravAH sUtaH paurANikò naimiSAraNye zaunakasya kulapatera davAdazavArSike satre ॥ 1-1-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसमासीनान अभ्यगच्छद बरह्मर्षीन संशितव्रतान विनयावनतॊ भूत्वा कदा चित सूतनन्दनः ॥ १-१-२ ॥
In the forest of Naimisha, the ascetics, eager to hear the wonderful narrations of the one surnamed Kulapati, promptly began addressing him upon his arrival at their recluse abode. ॥ 1-1-2 ॥

samAsInAna abhyagacchada barahmarSIna saMzitavratAna vinayAvanatò bhUtvA kadA cita sUtanandanaH ॥ 1-1-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतम आश्रमम अनुप्राप्तं नैमिषारण्यवासिनः चित्राः शरॊतुं कथास तत्र परिवव्रुस तपस्विनः ॥ १-१-३॥
When he reached the hermitage the wonderful inhabitants of the forest of Naimishara told him to take refuge in the ascetics ॥ 1-1-3 ॥

tama Azramama anuprAptaM naimiSAraNyavAsinaH citrAH zaròtuM kathAsa tatra parivavrusa tapasvinaH ॥ 1-1-3॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअभिवाद्य मुनींस तांस तु सर्वान एव कृताञ्जलिःअपृच्छत स तपॊवृद्धिं सद्भिश चैवाभिनन्दितः ॥ १-१-४ ॥
Having been entertained with due respect by those holy men, he saluted those Munis (sages) with joined palms, even all of them, and inquired about the progress of their asceticism ॥ 1-1-4 ॥

abhivAdya munIMsa tAMsa tu sarvAna eva kRtAJjaliHapRcchata sa tapòvRddhiM sadbhiza caivAbhinanditaH ॥ 1-1-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथ तेषूपविष्टेषु सर्वेष्व एव तपस्विषु निर्दिष्टम आसनं भेजे विनयाल लॊमहर्षणिः ॥ १-१-५ ॥
Then all the ascetics being again seated, the son of Lomaharshana humbly occupied the seat that was assigned to him. ॥ 1-1-5 ॥
