विविधं संहिता जञानं दीपयन्ति मनीषिणः वयाख्यातुं कुशलाः के चिद गरन्थं धारयितुं परे ॥ १-१-५१॥
'Scholars showcase their diverse understanding of the principles by offering commentary on the composition. Some excel in skillfully explicating its intricacies, while others demonstrate proficiency in retaining and recalling its contents.' ॥ 1-1-51 ॥

vividhaM saMhitA jaJAnaM dIpayanti manISiNaH vayAkhyAtuM kuzalAH ke cida garanthaM dhArayituM pare ॥ 1-1-51॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतपसा बरह्मचर्येण वयस्य वेदं सनातनम इतिहासम इमं चक्रे पुण्यं सत्यवती सुतः ॥ १-१-५२॥
'The son of Satyavati having, by penance and meditation, analyzed the eternal Veda.' ॥ 1-1-52 ॥

tapasA barahmacaryeNa vayasya vedaM sanAtanama itihAsama imaM cakre puNyaM satyavatI sutaH ॥ 1-1-52॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपराशरात्मजॊ विद्वान बरह्मर्षिः संशितव्रतः मातुर नियॊगाद धर्मात्मा गाङ्गेयस्य च धीमतः ॥ १-१-५३॥
'The knowledgeable son of Parashara, a virtuous sage steadfast in vows, a self-disciplined seeker of truth, dutifully appointed by his mother, and possessing wisdom, the son of the Ganges.' ॥ 1-1-53 ॥

parAzarAtmajò vidvAna barahmarSiH saMzitavrataH mAtura niyògAda dharmAtmA gAGgeyasya ca dhImataH ॥ 1-1-53॥

'In the battlefield, the mighty Krishna Dvaipayana, with extraordinary valor, once gave rise to three fires, resembling Agni, among the Kauravas.' ॥ 1-1-54 ॥

hk transliteration by Sanscriptउत्पाद्य धृतराष्ट्रं च पाण्डुं विदुरम एव च जगाम तपसे धीमान पुनर एवाश्रमं परति ॥ १-१-५५॥
'He begot Dhritarashtra, Pandu, and Vidura, and then, with a composed mind, he proceeded to engage in penance. Afterward, he returned to his hermitage.' ॥ 1-1-55 ॥
