ताराणाम इव संपातॊ बभूव जनमेजय भूषणानां च शुभ्राणां कवचानां च सर्वशः ॥ १-९६-१६ ॥
'And the motion of their ornaments and armor, O Janamejaya, brilliant as these were, resembled meteoric flashes in the sky.' ॥ 1-96-16 ॥

सवर्मभिर भूषणैस ते दराग भराजद्भिर इतस ततः सक्रॊधामर्ष जिह्मभ्रू सकषाय दृशस तथा ॥ १-९६-१७ ॥
'And with brows contracted and eyes red with rage, the monarchs moved impatiently, their armor and ornaments dazzling or waving with their agitated steps.' ॥ 1-96-17 ॥

सूतॊपकॢप्तान रुचिरान सदश्वॊद्यत धूर गतान रथान आस्थाय ते वीराः सर्वप्रहरणान्विताः परयान्तम एकं कौरव्यम अनुसस्रुर उदायुधाः ॥ १-९६-१८ ॥
'The charioteers swiftly brought forth handsome chariots drawn by fine horses. Those magnificent warriors, armed with various weapons, mounted these chariots and pursued the retreating leaders of the Kuru army, their weapons raised high.' ॥ 1-96-18 ॥

ततः समभवद युद्धं तेषां तस्य च भारत एकस्य च बहूनां च तुमुलं लॊमहर्षणम ॥ १-९६-१९ ॥
'Then, O Bharata, occurred the terrible encounter between those innumerable monarchs on one side and the Kuru warrior alone on the other.' ॥ 1-96-19 ॥

ते तव इषून दशसाहस्रांस तस्मै युगपद आक्षिपन अप्राप्तांश चैव तान आशु भीष्मः सर्वांस तदाच्छिनत ॥ १-९६-२० ॥
'And the assembled monarchs threw at their foe ten thousand arrows simultaneously. Bhishma, however speedily checked those numberless arrows before they could come at him using a shower of his arrows as innumerable as the down on the body.' ॥ 1-96-20 ॥
