तवम एव नाथः पर्याप्तः शंतनॊर अमितद्युतेः कन्यायाश चैव धर्मात्मन परभुर दानाय चेश्वरः ॥ १-९४-८१ ॥
'You alone are sufficient, O virtuous one, for the boundless splendor of Santanu, as well as for the maiden's welfare, and for the king's magnanimity and generosity.' ॥ 1-94-81 ॥
english translation
tavama eva nAthaH paryAptaH zaMtanòra amitadyuteH kanyAyAza caiva dharmAtmana parabhura dAnAya cezvaraH ॥ 1-94-81 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइदं तु वचनं सौम्य कार्यं चैव निबॊध मे कौमारिकाणां शीलेन वक्ष्याम्य अहम अरिंदम ॥ १-९४-८२ ॥
'O suppressor of foes, those who have daughters are bound by their duty to speak as I do. O you, steadfast in truth, the pledge you've made for Satyavati's welfare in front of these leaders is indeed befitting your honor.' ॥ 1-94-82 ॥
english translation
idaM tu vacanaM saumya kAryaM caiva nibòdha me kaumArikANAM zIlena vakSyAmya ahama ariMdama ॥ 1-94-82 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयत तवया सत्यवत्य अर्थे सत्यधर्मपरायण राजमध्ये परतिज्ञातम अनुरूपं तवैव तत ॥ १-९४-८३ ॥
'O mighty-armed one, I do not doubt that you will never break your promise. However, I do have concerns regarding the offspring you may have.' ॥ 1-94-83 ॥
english translation
yata tavayA satyavatya arthe satyadharmaparAyaNa rAjamadhye paratijJAtama anurUpaM tavaiva tata ॥ 1-94-83 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनान्यथा तन महाबाहॊ संशयॊ ऽतर न कश चन तवापत्यं भवेद यत तु तत्र नः संशयॊ महान ॥ १-९४-८४ ॥
'Otherwise, O mighty-armed one, there is no doubt in anyone's mind. But when it comes to your progeny, there lies our great doubt.' ॥ 1-94-84 ॥

nAnyathA tana mahAbAhò saMzayò 'tara na kaza cana tavApatyaM bhaveda yata tu tatra naH saMzayò mahAna ॥ 1-94-84 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्य तन मतम आज्ञाय सत्यधर्मपरायणः परत्यजानात तदा राजन पितुः परियचिकीर्षया ॥ १-९४-८५ ॥
'Following his command, dedicated to truth and righteousness, the king thus abandoned the proposal, considering his father's intentions.' ॥ 1-94-85 ॥

tasya tana matama AjJAya satyadharmaparAyaNaH paratyajAnAta tadA rAjana pituH pariyacikIrSayA ॥ 1-94-85 ॥
