तस्मै स कुरुमुख्याय यथावत परिपृच्छते वरं शशंस कन्यां ताम उद्दिश्य भरतर्षभ ॥ १-९४-६६ ॥
'O bull of Bharata's lineage, as the prince inquired, the minister elucidated the requested boon by the chief of the fishermen concerning his daughter, Gandhavati.' ॥ 1-94-66 ॥
english translation
ततॊ देवव्रतॊ वृद्धैः कषत्रियैः सहितस तदा अभिगम्य दाशराजानं कन्यां वव्रे पितुः सवयम ॥ १-९४-६७ ॥
'Then Devavrata, accompanied by many Kshatriya chiefs of venerable age, personally repaired to the chief of the fishermen and begged of him his daughter on behalf of the king.' ॥ 1-94-67 ॥
english translation
तं दाशः परतिजग्राह विधिवत परतिपूज्य च अब्रवीच चैनम आसीनं राजसंसदि भारत ॥ १-९४-६८ ॥
'The chief of the fishermen welcomed him with appropriate respect. O scion of Bharata's lineage, when the prince seated himself in the court of the chief, the latter addressed him.' ॥ 1-94-68 ॥

तवम एव नाथः पर्याप्तः शंतनॊः पुरुषर्षभ पुत्रः पुत्रवतां शरेष्ठः किं नु वक्ष्यामि ते वचः ॥ १-९४-६९ ॥
'He said, "O chief among the Bharatas, you are the foremost wielder of weapons and the sole son of Santanu. Your power is immense. However, I have something to convey to you."' ॥ 1-94-69 ॥
english translation
कॊ हि संबन्धकं शलाघ्यम ईप्सितं यौनम ईदृशम अतिक्रामन न तप्येत साक्षाद अपि शतक्रतुः ॥ १-९४-७० ॥
'Even if the bride's father were Indra himself, he would regret rejecting such a highly honorable and desirable proposal of marriage.' ॥ 1-94-70 ॥
