महेष्वासम इमं राजन राजधर्मार्थकॊविदम मया दत्तं निजं पुत्रं वीरं वीर गृहान नय ॥ १-९४-३६ ॥
'O king, this great archer, knowledgeable in royal duties and purposes, my son, has been given to you. Take this hero into your home, O valiant one.' ॥ 1-94-36 ॥
english translation
[व] तयैवं समनुज्ञातः पुत्रम आदाय शंतनुः भराजमानं यथादित्यम आययौ सवपुरं परति ॥ १-९४-३७ ॥
'He is a formidable archer and well-versed in the interpretation of all treatises on royal duties.' Thus instructed by Ganga, Santanu took his son, radiant like the Sun itself, and returned to his capital.' ॥ 1-94-37 ॥

पौरवः सवपुरं गत्वा पुरंदर पुरॊपमम सर्वकामसमृद्धार्थं मेने आत्मानम आत्मना पौरवेषु ततः पुत्रं यौवराज्ये ऽभयषेचयत ॥ १-९४-३८ ॥
'Upon returning to his capital, which resembled the city of Indra in splendor, filled with all desirable riches, the King of the Purus, considering himself fortunate, then anointed his son as the crown prince amidst the citizens.' ॥ 1-94-38 ॥

पौरवाञ शंतनॊः पुत्रः पितरं च महायशाः राष्ट्रं च रञ्जयाम आस वृत्तेन भरतर्षभ ॥ १-९४-३९ ॥
'The prince, soon pleased by his conduct, brought joy to his father, the Paurava dynasty, and all the subjects of the kingdom, O bull of the Bharata lineage. Indeed, the king of unmatched valor lived happily with his son.' ॥ 1-94-39 ॥

स तथा सह पुत्रेण रममाणॊ महीपतिः वर्तयाम आस वर्षाणि चत्वार्य अमितविक्रमः ॥ १-९४-४० ॥
'Thus, the king, along with his son, enjoyed life, ruling for many years with immeasurable valor.' ॥ 1-94-40 ॥
