जातमात्रं पुरा दृष्टं तं पुत्रं शंतनुस तदा नॊपलेभे समृतिं धीमान अभिज्ञातुं तम आत्मजम ॥ १-९४-२६ ॥
'The wise Shantanu recognized his son, whom he had only seen once before, but he couldn't discern his destiny or recognize his son.' ॥ 1-94-26 ॥
english translation
स तु तं पितरं दृष्ट्वा मॊहयाम आस मायया संमॊह्य तु ततः कषिप्रं तत्रैवान्तरधीयत ॥ १-९४-२७ ॥
'The youth, however, seeing his father, knew him at once, but instead of disclosing himself, he clouded the king's perception by his celestial powers of illusion and disappeared in his very sight. ' ॥ 1-94-27 ॥
english translation
तद अद्भुतं तदा दृष्ट्वा तत्र राजा स शंतनुः शङ्कमानः सुतं गङ्गाम अब्रवीद दर्शयेति ह ॥ १-९४-२८ ॥
'King Santanu, wondering much at what he saw and imagining the youth to be his son then addressed Ganga and said, 'Show me that child.'' ॥ 1-94-28 ॥
english translation
दर्शयाम आस तं गङ्गा बिभ्रती रूपम उत्तमम गृहीत्वा दक्षिणे पाणौ तं कुमारम अलंकृतम ॥ १-९४-२९ ॥
'Ganga thus addressed, assuming a beautiful form, and holding the boy decked with ornaments in her right arm, showed him to Santanu.' ॥ 1-94-29 ॥
english translation
अलंकृताम आभरणैर अरजॊ ऽमबरधारिणीम दृष्टपूर्वाम अपि सतीं नाभ्यजानात स शंतनुः ॥ १-९४-३० ॥
'And Santanu did not recognize that beautiful female bedecked with ornaments and attired in fine robes of white, although he had known her before.' ॥ 1-94-30 ॥
