स कदा चिन मृगं विद्ध्वा गङ्गाम अनुसरन नदीम भागीरथीम अल्पजलां शंतनुर दृष्टवान नृपः ।। १-९४-२१ ।।

sanskrit

'Once, while hunting, he shot a deer and followed it along the riverbank until he reached the shallow waters of the Ganga. There, King Shantanu saw the Bhagirathi, the river with scanty waters.' ।। 1-94-21 ।।

english translation

sa kadA cina mRgaM viddhvA gaGgAma anusarana nadIma bhAgIrathIma alpajalAM zaMtanura dRSTavAna nRpaH || 1-94-21 ||
