एवं संदिश्य तनयं परतीपः शंतनुं तदा सवे च राज्ये ऽभिषिच्यैनं वनं राजा विवेश ह ॥ १-९२-२३ ॥

'After instructing his son in this manner, Pratipa then anointed Santanu as the king over his realm and himself entered the forest, assuming the life of a hermit.' ॥ 1-92-23 ॥
