परतीपः शंतनुं पुत्रं यौवनस्थं ततॊ ऽनवशात पुरा मां सत्री समभ्यागाच छंतनॊ भूतये तव ॥ १-९२-२० ॥

'When Shantanu reached his youth, Pratipa spoke to him, saying, 'O Shantanu, a celestial maiden once approached me for your benefit. Should you encounter this fair lady in solitude, and she desires offspring from you, then welcome her as your spouse.' ॥ 1-92-20 ॥

paratIpaH zaMtanuM putraM yauvanasthaM tatò 'navazAta purA mAM satrI samabhyAgAca chaMtanò bhUtaye tava ॥ 1-92-20 ॥
