माता भस्त्रा पितुः पुत्रॊ येन जातः स एव सः भरस्व पुत्रं दुःषन्त मावमंस्थाः शकुन्तलाम ।। १-९०-३१ ।।

sanskrit

'The mother is just the vessel through which the father begets the son. In truth, the father himself is the son. Hence, O Dushmanta, acknowledge your son and do not insult Shakuntala.' ।। 1-90-31 ।।

english translation

mAtA bhastrA pituH putrò yena jAtaH sa eva saH bharasva putraM duHSanta mAvamaMsthAH zakuntalAma || 1-90-31 ||

रेतॊ धाः पुत्र उन्नयति नरदेव यमक्षयात तवं चास्य धाता गर्भस्य सत्याम आह शकुन्तला ।। १-९०-३२ ।।

sanskrit

'O noble among men, it is indeed true that a father, by acknowledging his son, redeems himself from hell. Shakuntala has spoken rightly in saying that you are the progenitor of this child.' ।। 1-90-32 ।।

english translation

retò dhAH putra unnayati naradeva yamakSayAta tavaM cAsya dhAtA garbhasya satyAma Aha zakuntalA || 1-90-32 ||

ततॊ ऽसय भरतत्वम ।। १-९०-३३ ।।

'It is for this (i.e., because the king supported his child after hearing the above speech of the celestial messenger) that Sakuntala's son came to be called Bharata (the supported).' ।। 1-90-33 ।।

'And Bharata married Sunanda, the daughter of Sarvasena, the king of Kasi, and begat upon her the son named Bhumanyu.' ।। 1-90-34 ।।
