सुहॊत्रः खल्व इक्ष्वाकुकन्याम उपयेमे सुवर्णां नाम तस्याम अस्य जज्ञे हस्ती य इदं हास्तिनपुरं मापयाम आस एतद अस्य हास्तिनपुरत्वम ॥ १-९०-३६ ॥
'Suhotra married Suvarna, the daughter of the Ikshvaku lineage. They had a son named Hasti, who founded the city of Hastinapura. This establishment of Hastinapura became his legacy.' ॥ 1-90-36 ॥

हस्ती खलु तरैगर्तीम उपयेमे यशॊधरां नाम तस्याम अस्य जज्ञे विकुण्ठनः ॥ १-९०-३७ ॥
'Hasti, having married Yasodhara from Trigarta, fathered a son named Vikunthana with her.' ॥ 1-90-37 ॥

विकुण्ठनः खलु दाशार्हीम उपयेमे सुदेवां नाम तस्याम अस्य जज्ञे ऽजमीढः ॥ १-९०-३८ ॥
'Vikunthana married Sudeva, a princess from the Dasarha lineage, and they were blessed with a son named Ajamidha.' ॥ 1-90-38 ॥

अजमीढस्य चतुर्विंशं पुत्रशतं बभूव कैकेय्यां नागायां गान्धर्यां विमलायाम ऋक्षायां चेति पृथक्पृथग वंशकरा नृपतयः तत्र वंशकरः संवरणः ॥ १-९०-३९ ॥
'And Ajamidha had four wives named Raikeyi, Gandhari, Visala and Riksha. And he begat on them two thousand and four hundred sons. But amongst them all, Samvarana became the perpetuator of the dynasty.' ॥ 1-90-39 ॥

संवरणः खलु वैवस्वतीं तपतीं नामॊपयेमे तस्याम अस्य जज्ञे कुरुः ॥ १-९०-४० ॥
'Samvarana wedded Tapati, the daughter of Vivasvat, the Sun God. Together, they brought forth Kuru.' ॥ 1-90-40 ॥
