ततः स पृथिवीं पराप्य पुनर ईजे महाबलः आजमीढॊ महायज्ञैर बहुभिर भूरिदक्षिणैः ॥ १-८९-४१ ॥

'Then, that mighty Bharata, after conquering the earth again, performed numerous great sacrifices with abundant offerings.' ॥ 1-89-41 ॥

english translation

ततः संवरणात सौरी सुषुवे तपती कुरुम राजत्वे तं परजाः सर्वा धर्मज्ञ इति वव्रिरे ॥ १-८९-४२ ॥

'Samvarana begat upon his wife, Tapati, the daughter of Surya, a son named Kuru. This Kuru was exceedingly virtuous, and therefore, he was installed on the throne by his people.' ॥ 1-89-42 ॥

english translation

तस्य नाम्नाभिविख्यातं पृथिव्यां कुरुजाङ्गलम कुरुक्षेत्रं स तपसा पुण्यं चक्रे महातपाः ॥ १-८९-४३ ॥

'It is after his name that the field called Kuru-jangala has become so famous in the world. Devoted to asceticism, he made that field (Kurukshetra) sacred by practicing asceticism there.' ॥ 1-89-43 ॥

english translation

अश्ववन्तम अभिष्वन्तं तथा चित्ररथं मुनिम जनमेजयं च विख्यातं पुत्रांश चास्यानुशुश्रुमः पञ्चैतान वाहिनी पुत्रान वयजायत मनस्विनी ॥ १-८९-४४ ॥

'And it has been heard by us that Kuru's highly intelligent wife, Vahini, brought forth five sons, viz., Avikshit, Bhavishyanta, Chaitraratha, Muni and the celebrated Janamejaya.' ॥ 1-89-44 ॥

english translation

अभिष्वतः परिक्षित तु शबलाश्वश च वीर्यवान अभिराजॊ विराजश च शल्मलश च महाबलः ॥ १-८९-४५ ॥

'From Abhishvanta came Parikshit, and from him, the valiant Shibalashva. Abhiraja, Viraja, and the mighty Shalmali were also among his descendants.' ॥ 1-89-45 ॥
