तेषां निवसतां तत्र सहस्रं परिवत्सरान अथाभ्यगच्छद भरतान वसिष्ठॊ भगवान ऋषिः ॥ १-८९-३६ ॥
'There the Bharatas lived for a full thousand years, within their fort. And after they had lived there a thousand years, one day the illustrious Rishi Vasishtha approached the exiled Bharatas.' ॥ 1-89-36 ॥
english translation
teSAM nivasatAM tatra sahasraM parivatsarAna athAbhyagacchada bharatAna vasiSThò bhagavAna RSiH ॥ 1-89-36 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतम आगतं परयत्नेन परत्युद्गम्याभिवाद्य च अर्घ्यम अभ्याहरंस तस्मै ते सर्वे भारतास तदा निवेद्य सर्वम ऋषये सत्कारेण सुवर्चसे ॥ १-८९-३७ ॥
'Upon his arrival, all the Bharatas went out to greet the sage with great respect, offering arghya as a gesture of worship. Treating him with utmost reverence, they conveyed all their concerns and matters to the illustrious sage.' ॥ 1-89-37 ॥
english translation
tama AgataM parayatnena paratyudgamyAbhivAdya ca arghyama abhyAharaMsa tasmai te sarve bhAratAsa tadA nivedya sarvama RSaye satkAreNa suvarcase ॥ 1-89-37 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतं समाम अष्टमीम उष्टं राजा वव्रे सवयं तदा पुरॊहितॊ भवान नॊ ऽसतु राज्याय परयतामहे ओम इत्य एवं वसिष्ठॊ ऽपि भारतान परत्यपद्यत ॥ १-८९-३८ ॥
'The king himself performed the offering on the eighth day, saying, "Be our priest, O Vasishtha, for the sake of our kingdom. Om," thus spoke Vasishtha to the Bharatas.' ॥ 1-89-38 ॥
english translation
taM samAma aSTamIma uSTaM rAjA vavre savayaM tadA puròhitò bhavAna nò 'satu rAjyAya parayatAmahe oma itya evaM vasiSThò 'pi bhAratAna paratyapadyata ॥ 1-89-38 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथाभ्यषिञ्चत साम्राज्ये सर्वक्षत्रस्य पौरवम विषाण भूतं सर्वस्यां पृथिव्याम इति नः शरुतम ॥ १-८९-३९ ॥
'Then, it is heard by us, Vasishtha consecrated the descendant of Puru as the emperor over all Kshatriyas, making him the sovereign of the entire earth.' ॥ 1-89-39 ॥
english translation
athAbhyaSiJcata sAmrAjye sarvakSatrasya pauravama viSANa bhUtaM sarvasyAM pRthivyAma iti naH zarutama ॥ 1-89-39 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभरताध्युषितं पूर्वं सॊ ऽधयतिष्ठत पुरॊत्तमम पुनर बलिभृतश चैव चक्रे सर्वमहीक्षितः ॥ १-८९-४० ॥
'Previously, Bharata had ruled, but he then stepped aside for the excellent Puru. Once again, he became the sovereign of the entire earth, bearing the burden of sacrifices.' ॥ 1-89-40 ॥

bharatAdhyuSitaM pUrvaM sò 'dhayatiSThata puròttamama punara balibhRtaza caiva cakre sarvamahIkSitaH ॥ 1-89-40 ॥
