[व] ततः परहायामर राजजुष्टान; पुण्याँल लॊकान पतमानं ययातिम संप्रेक्ष्य राजर्षिवरॊ ऽषटकस तम; उवाच सद धर्मविधानगॊप्ता ॥ १-८३-६ ॥
'Vaisampayana went on, 'Thus, Yayati descended from the celestial realms. Amid his descent, he was seen by the eminent royal sage Ashtaka, who was a staunch defender of his dharma.' ॥ 1-83-6 ॥
english translation
कस तवं युवा वासवतुल्यरूपः; सवतेजसा दीप्यमानॊ यथाग्निः पतस्य उदीर्णाम्बुधरान्ध कारात खात; खेचराणां परवरॊ यथार्कः ॥ १-८३-७ ॥
'Ashtaka, upon seeing him, asked, "Who are you, O youth, whose beauty rivals that of Indra, shining brilliantly like fire, descending from the heavens? Are you the sun, the supreme celestial entity, piercing through the darkness of dense clouds?"' ॥ 1-83-7 ॥

दृष्ट्वा च तवां सूर्यपथात पतन्तं; वैश्वानरार्क दयुतिम अप्रमेयम किं नु सविद एतत पततीति सर्वे; वितर्कयन्तः परिमॊहिताः समः ॥ १-८३-८ ॥
'Observing you descend from the trajectory of the sun, endowed with boundless vigor and the brilliance akin to fire or the sun, everyone is intrigued about what might be plummeting, while also being rendered bewildered and senseless by the sight.' ॥ 1-83-8 ॥

दृष्ट्वा च तवां विष्ठितं देवमार्गे; शक्रार्क विष्णुप्रतिम परभावम अभ्युद्गतास तवां वयम अद्य सर्वे; तत्त्वं पाते तव जिज्ञासमानाः ॥ १-८३-९ ॥
'Seeing you positioned on the celestial path, radiant with energy akin to that of Indra, Surya, or Vishnu, we have come to you seeking to understand the truth.' ॥ 1-83-9 ॥

न चापि तवां धृष्णुमः परष्टुम अग्रे; न च तवम अस्मान पृच्छसि ये वयं समः तत तवां पृच्छामः सपृहणीय रूपं; कस्य तवं वा किंनिमित्तं तवम आगाः ॥ १-८३-१० ॥
'We neither intend to offend you by questioning you openly, nor do you inquire of us who are your equals. Therefore, we ask you in a respectful manner: What is your divine form, and for what reason have you descended here?' ॥ 1-83-10 ॥
