[व] एवं स नाहुषॊ राजा ययातिः पुत्रम ईप्सितम राज्ये ऽभिषिच्य मुदितॊ वानप्रस्थॊ ऽभवन मुनिः ॥ १-८१-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, "Thus, King Nahusha's son, Yayati, joyfully installed his beloved son in the kingdom and then became a forest-dwelling sage."' ॥ 1-81-1 ॥
english translation
उषित्वा च वनेवासं बराह्मणैः सह संश्रितः फलमूलाशनॊ दान्तॊ यथा सवर्गम इतॊ गतः ॥ १-८१-२ ॥
'After residing in the forest for a while, in the company of Brahmanas, adhering to strict vows, subsisting on fruits and roots, and enduring various hardships with patience, the king ultimately ascended to heaven.' ॥ 1-81-2 ॥
english translation
स गतः सुरवासं तं निवसन मुदितः सुखम कालस्य नातिमहतः पुनः शक्रेण पातितः ॥ १-८१-३ ॥
'And having ascended to heaven he lived there in bliss. But soon, however, he was hurled down by Indra.' ॥ 1-81-3 ॥
english translation
निपतन परच्युतः सवर्गाद अप्राप्तॊ मेदिनी तलम सथित आसीद अन्तरिक्षे स तदेति शरुतं मया ॥ १-८१-४ ॥
'And I have heard, O king, that Yayati, though cast down from heaven, did not reach the earth's surface but remained suspended in the sky.' ॥ 1-81-4 ॥
english translation
तत एव पुनश चापि गतः सवर्गम इति शरुतिः राज्ञा वसुमता सार्धम अष्टकेन च वीर्यवान परतर्दनेन शिबिना समेत्य किल संसदि ॥ १-८१-५ ॥
'It is also heard that thereafter, with the aid of his queen Vasumati and his valiant son Ashtaka, endowed with great prowess, he ascended back to heaven, accompanied by Paratardana and Shibi, as they gathered in the assembly.' ॥ 1-81-5 ॥
