शुक्रेण च वरॊ दत्तः काव्येनॊशनसा सवयम पुत्रॊ यस तवानुवर्तेत स राजा पृथिवीपतिः भवतॊ ऽनुनयाम्य एवं पूरू राज्ये ऽभिषिच्यताम ॥ १-८०-२१ ॥
'Puru has indeed been a friend to me, fulfilling my wishes in a manner most pleasing. Moreover, Sukra himself, the son of Kavi, decreed that the son who obeys me shall succeed me as king and shall bring the entire Earth under his dominion. Thus, I earnestly request that Puru be enthroned.' ॥ 1-80-21 ॥

[परकृतयह] यः पुत्रॊ गुणसंपन्नॊ मातापित्रॊर हितः सदा सर्वम अर्हति कल्याणं कनीयान अपि स परभॊ ॥ १-८०-२२ ॥
'The people then affirmed, 'Indeed, O king, it is true that a son who is accomplished and prioritizes the welfare of his parents deserves prosperity, regardless of his age.'" ॥ 1-80-22 ॥

अर्हः पूरुर इदं राज्यं यः सुतः परियकृत तव वरदानेन शुक्रस्य न शक्यं वक्तुम उत्तरम ॥ १-८०-२३ ॥
'Therefore, Puru, who has acted virtuously, deserves the throne. And since Sukra himself has decreed it, we have no objections.' ॥ 1-80-23 ॥

[व] पौरजानपदैस तुष्टैर इत्य उक्तॊ नाहुषस तदा अभ्यषिञ्चत ततः पूरुं राज्ये सवे सुतम आत्मजम ॥ १-८०-२४ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, "Thus addressed by his satisfied subjects, the son of Nahusha then enthroned his son, Puru."' ॥ 1-80-24 ॥

दत्त्वा च पूरवे राज्यं वनवासाय दीक्षितः पुरात स निर्ययौ राजा बराह्मणैस तापसैः सह ॥ १-८०-२५ ॥
'Having previously bestowed the kingdom upon Puru and undertaken asceticism for exile, the king departed from his palace, accompanied by Brahmins and ascetics.' ॥ 1-80-25 ॥
