परतिपेदे जरां राजा ययातिर नाहुषस तदा यौवनं परतिपेदे च पूरुः सवं पुनर आत्मनः ॥ १-८०-११ ॥
'Then, King Yayati, of the Nahusha lineage, took on old age, while Puru, in turn, regained his own youth.' ॥ 1-80-11 ॥

अभिषेक्तु कामं नृपतिं पूरुं पुत्रं कनीयसम बराह्मण परमुखा वर्णा इदं वचनम अब्रुवन ॥ १-८०-१२ ॥
'Yayati wished to crown Puru, his youngest son, as king. However, the four social orders, led by the Brahmanas, then spoke to the monarch as follows.' ॥ 1-80-12 ॥

कथं शुक्रस्य नप्तारं देव यान्याः सुतं परभॊ जयेष्ठं यदुम अतिक्रम्य राज्यं पूरॊः परदास्यसि ॥ १-८०-१३ ॥
'O King, how can you bestow your kingdom upon Puru, overlooking your eldest son Yadu, born of Devayani and thus the grandson of the great Sukra? Indeed, Yadu holds the status of your eldest son.' ॥ 1-80-13 ॥

यदुर जयेष्ठस तव सुतॊ जातस तम अनु तुर्वसुः शर्मिष्ठायाः सुतॊ दरुह्युस ततॊ ऽनुः पूरुर एव च ॥ १-८०-१४ ॥
'After him, Turvasu was born; among Sarmishtha's sons, Drahyu came first, followed by Anu, and then Puru.' ॥ 1-80-14 ॥

कथं जयेष्ठान अतिक्रम्य कनीयान राज्यम अर्हति एतत संबॊधयामस तवां धर्मं तवम अनुपालय ॥ १-८०-१५ ॥
'How does the youngest merit the throne, surpassing all his elder brothers? We present this to you! Oh, adhere to the path of virtue.' ॥ 1-80-15 ॥
