[आनु] जीर्णः शिशुवद आदत्ते ऽकाले ऽननम अशुचिर यथा न जुहॊति च काले ऽगनिं तां जरां नाभिकामये ॥ १-७९-२१ ॥
'In response, Anu replied, "Those who are aged eat like infants and are perpetually unclean. They cannot offer oblations to the fire at the right times. Hence, I decline to accept your decrepitude."' ॥ 1-79-21 ॥
english translation
[य] यत तवं मे हृदयाज जातॊ वयः सवं न परयच्छसि जरा दॊषस तवयॊक्तॊ ऽयं तस्मात तवं परतिपत्स्यसे ॥ १-७९-२२ ॥
'Yayati told him, "You have originated from my heart, yet you withhold your youth. You find numerous faults in old age."' ॥ 1-79-22 ॥
english translation
परजाश च यौवनप्राप्ता विनशिष्यन्त्य अनॊ तव अग्निप्रस्कन्दन परस तवं चाप्य एवं भविष्यसि ॥ १-७९-२३ ॥
'Hence, decrepitude shall prevail over you! Moreover, O Anu, your descendants, upon reaching youth, will perish. Furthermore, you will be unable to conduct sacrifices before the fire.' ॥ 1-79-23 ॥

पुरॊ तवं मे परियः पुत्रस तवं वरीयान भविष्यसि जरा वली च मे तात पलितानि च पर्यगुः काव्यस्यॊशनसः शापान न च तृप्तॊ ऽसमि यौवने ॥ १-७९-२४ ॥
'Yayati spoke to his youngest child, Puru, saying, "O Puru, despite being my youngest son, you shall hold the highest position among all. Due to the curse of the sage Kavya, also known as Usanas, I have been afflicted with old age, wrinkles, and grey hair. Yet, I have not experienced my youth to the fullest."' ॥ 1-79-24 ॥

पुरॊ तवं परतिपद्यस्व पाप्मानं जरया सह कं चित कालं चरेयं वै विषयान वयसा तव ॥ १-७९-२५ ॥
'O Puru, accept my weakness and decrepitude. Let me enjoy the pleasures of life for some time with your youth.' ॥ 1-79-25 ॥
