तम एकं रहिते दृष्ट्वा शर्मिष्ठा चारुहासिनी परत्युद्गम्याञ्जलिं कृत्वा राजानं वाक्यम अब्रवीत ।। १-७७-११ ।।

'Observing the monarch standing before her without any witnesses around, Sarmishtha, her smile sweet, approached him and spoke with folded hands.' ।। 1-77-11 ।।

english translation

tama ekaM rahite dRSTvA zarmiSThA cAruhAsinI paratyudgamyAJjaliM kRtvA rAjAnaM vAkyama abravIta || 1-77-11 ||

'O king, whether you belong to the lineage of Soma, Indra, Vishnu, Yama, Varuna, or the dynasty of Nahusha, who among these worthy of respect deserves to question a woman like me?' ।। 1-77-12 ।।

'Yayati responded, 'I am well aware of the nobility of your birth, being born into the illustrious lineage of the Danavas. You are also endowed with beauty.' ।। 1-77-14 ।।

'Indeed, I find not even the slightest fault in your features. However, Usanas, upon my union with Devayani, expressly forbade that the daughter of Vrishaparvan should ever be summoned to share my bed.' ।। 1-77-15 ।।
