तत्र वासॊ देव यान्याः शर्मिष्ठा जगृहे तदा वयतिमिश्रम अजानन्ती दुहिता वृषपर्वणः ॥ १-७३-६ ॥
'As fate would have it, amidst the jumble, Sharmishtha, Vrishaparva's daughter, unknowingly took Devayani's garments. ' ॥ 1-73-6 ॥
english translation
ततस तयॊर मिथस तत्र विरॊधः समजायत देव यान्याश च राजेन्द्र शर्मिष्ठायाश च तत कृते ॥ १-७३-७ ॥
'And then, O king, a dispute arose between them, Devayani and Sarmishtha. ' ॥ 1-73-7 ॥
english translation
[देव] कस्माद गृह्णासि मे वस्त्रं शिष्या भूत्वा ममासुरि समुदाचार हीनाया न ते शरेयॊ भविष्यति ॥ १-७३-८ ॥
'Why do you take my garment? You have become my disciple, and it is not proper for you to act in this way towards your superior. ' ॥ 1-73-8 ॥
english translation
[षर] आसीनं च शयानं च पिता ते पितरं मम सतौति वन्दति चाभीक्ष्णं नीचैः सथित्वा विनीतवत ॥ १-७३-९ ॥
'Your lack of decency ensures no good will come to you," Sarmishtha countered. "Your father, assuming a humble stance, perpetually praises my father in submission, whether he is seated or reclining, much like a subservient bard. ' ॥ 1-73-9 ॥

याचतस तवं हि दुहिता सतुवतः परतिगृह्णतः सुताहं सतूयमानस्य ददतॊ ऽपरतिगृह्णतः ॥ १-७३-१० ॥
'You are the daughter of someone who sings praises and receives alms, while I am the daughter of someone who is worshipped and gives alms, not one to accept them. ' ॥ 1-73-10 ॥
