[देव] यदि मां धर्मकामार्थे परत्याख्यास्यसि चॊदितः ततः कच न ते विद्या सिद्धिम एषा गमिष्यति ।। १-७२-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'Devayani responded, "If you, being entreated by me, indeed decline to accept me as your wife, then, O Kacha, this knowledge of yours will not yield its intended results."' ।। 1-72-16 ।।

english translation

'Hearing this, Kacha responded, "My refusal stems solely from the fact that you are my preceptor's daughter, not due to any fault of yours. Moreover, my preceptor hasn't given any directive regarding this matter. If you wish, then, you may curse me."' ।। 1-72-17 ।।

'I uphold the principles of righteousness as taught by the sages, O Devayani. Being cursed by you, I don't merit such a curse, for my actions are not driven by desire but are aligned with dharma.' ।। 1-72-18 ।।

'You've declared that my knowledge won't bear fruit for you. So be it. However, it will indeed bear fruit for the one to whom I impart it.' ।। 1-72-20 ।।
