[देव] यदि मां धर्मकामार्थे परत्याख्यास्यसि चॊदितः ततः कच न ते विद्या सिद्धिम एषा गमिष्यति ॥ १-७२-१६ ॥
'Devayani responded, "If you, being entreated by me, indeed decline to accept me as your wife, then, O Kacha, this knowledge of yours will not yield its intended results."' ॥ 1-72-16 ॥
english translation
[क] गुरुपुत्रीति कृत्वाहं परत्याचक्षे न दॊषतः गुरुणा चाभ्यनुज्ञातः कामम एवं शपस्व माम ॥ १-७२-१७ ॥
'Hearing this, Kacha responded, "My refusal stems solely from the fact that you are my preceptor's daughter, not due to any fault of yours. Moreover, my preceptor hasn't given any directive regarding this matter. If you wish, then, you may curse me."' ॥ 1-72-17 ॥
english translation
आर्षं धर्मं बरुवाणॊ ऽहं देव यानि यथा तवया शप्तॊ नार्हॊ ऽसमि शापस्य कामतॊ ऽदय न धर्मतः ॥ १-७२-१८ ॥
'I uphold the principles of righteousness as taught by the sages, O Devayani. Being cursed by you, I don't merit such a curse, for my actions are not driven by desire but are aligned with dharma.' ॥ 1-72-18 ॥
english translation
तस्माद भवत्या यः कामॊ न तथा स भविष्यति ऋषिपुत्रॊ न ते कश चिज जातु पाणिं गरहीष्यति ॥ १-७२-१९ ॥
'Thus, your wish shall remain unfulfilled; no son of a sage will ever take your hand in marriage.' ॥ 1-72-19 ॥

फलिष्यति न ते विद्या यत तवं माम आत्थ तत तथा अध्यापयिष्यामि तु यं तस्य विद्या फलिष्यति ॥ १-७२-२० ॥
'You've declared that my knowledge won't bear fruit for you. So be it. However, it will indeed bear fruit for the one to whom I impart it.' ॥ 1-72-20 ॥
