भार्यां पतिः संप्रविश्य स यस्माज जायते पुनः जायाया इति जायात्वं पुराणाः कवयॊ विदुः ।। १-६८-३६ ।।

sanskrit

'According to the Vedas, as recognized by the sages, the husband, by entering the womb of the wife, is reborn as the son. Thus, the term 'Jaya' for a wife, signifies 'the one from whom one is reborn.' ।। 1-68-36 ।।

english translation

bhAryAM patiH saMpravizya sa yasmAja jAyate punaH jAyAyA iti jAyAtvaM purANAH kavayò viduH || 1-68-36 ||

'The offspring of a person who follows the scriptures ensures the salvation of ancestors including the great-grandfathers by continuing the lineage.' ।। 1-68-37 ।।

yada AgamavataH puMsasa tada apatyaM parajAyate tata tArayati saMtatyA pUrvapretAna pitAmahAna || 1-68-37 ||

'Because the son delivers his ancestors from the hell named Put, he is thus named Putra (rescuer from Put) by the Self-Created (Svayambhuva) himself.' ।। 1-68-38 ।।

puna nAmnò narakAda yasmAta pitaraM tarAyate sutaH tasmAta putra iti paròktaH savayama eva savayambhuvA || 1-68-38 ||

'A wife is deemed true when she excels in managing household affairs, bears a son, dedicates her heart to her husband, and acknowledges none but him.' ।। 1-68-39 ।।

'The wife is a man's half. The wife is the first of friends. The wife is the root of religion, profit, and desire. The wife is the root of salvation.' ।। 1-68-40 ।।

ardhaM bhAryA manuSyasya bhAryA zareSThatamaH sakhA bhAryA mUlaM tarivargasya bhAryA mitraM mariSyataH || 1-68-40 ||
