पाण्डॊस तु जज्ञिरे पञ्च पुत्रा देवसमाः पृथक दवयॊः सत्रियॊर गुणज्येष्ठस तेषाम आसीद युधिष्ठिरः ।। १-५७-९६ ।।

sanskrit

'And from Dwaipayana also born, in the Sudra caste, the wise and intelligent Vidura, conversant with both religion and profit, and free from all sins. And unto Pandu by his two wives were born five sons like the celestials. The eldest of them was Yudhishthira.' ।। 1-57-96 ।।

english translation

pANDòsa tu jajJire paJca putrA devasamAH pRthaka davayòH satriyòra guNajyeSThasa teSAma AsIda yudhiSThiraH || 1-57-96 ||

hk transliteration

धर्माद युधिष्ठिरॊ जज्ञे मारुतात तु वृकॊदरः इन्द्राद धनंजयः शरीमान सर्वशस्त्रभृतां वरः ।। १-५७-९७ ।।

sanskrit

'And Yudhishthira was born (of the seed) of Dharma (Yama, the god of justice); and Bhima of the wolf's stomach was born of Marut (the god of wind), and Dhananjaya, blessed with good fortune and the first of all wielders of weapons, was born of Indra;' ।। 1-57-97 ।।

english translation

dharmAda yudhiSThirò jajJe mArutAta tu vRkòdaraH indrAda dhanaMjayaH zarImAna sarvazastrabhRtAM varaH || 1-57-97 ||

जज्ञाते रूपसंपन्नाव अश्विभ्यां तु यमाव उभौ नकुलः सहदेवश च गुरुशुश्रूषणे रतौ ।। १-५७-९८ ।।

sanskrit

'Nakula and Sahadeva, both endowed with handsome forms, were born from the Ashvins. They were devoted to serving their elders and were particularly skilled in the service of their teacher.' ।। 1-57-98 ।।

english translation

jajJAte rUpasaMpannAva azvibhyAM tu yamAva ubhau nakulaH sahadevaza ca guruzuzrUSaNe ratau || 1-57-98 ||

तथा पुत्रशतं जज्ञे धृतराष्ट्रस्य धीमतः दुर्यॊधनप्रभृतयॊ युयुत्सुः करणस तथा ।। १-५७-९९ ।।

sanskrit

'Similarly, the wise Dhritarashtra begot a hundred sons, including Duryodhana, and others like Karna, all eager for battle.' ।। 1-57-99 ।।

english translation

tathA putrazataM jajJe dhRtarASTrasya dhImataH duryòdhanaprabhRtayò yuyutsuH karaNasa tathA || 1-57-99 ||

अभिमन्युः सुभद्रायाम अर्जुनाद अभ्यजायत सवस्तीयॊ वासुदेवस्य पौत्रः पाण्डॊर महात्मनः ।। १-५७-१०० ।।

sanskrit

'And Abhimanyu was born of Subhadra, the sister of Vasudeva through Arjuna, and was, therefore, the grandson of the illustrious Pandu' ।। 1-57-100 ।।
