तुण्डयुद्धम अथाकाशे ताव उभौ संप्रचक्रतुः युध्यतॊर अपतद रेतस तच चापि यमुनाम्भसि ॥ १-५७-४६ ॥

'The two fought with each other in the sky with their beaks. While they were fighting, the seed (semen) fell into the waters of the Yamuna.' ॥ 1-57-46 ॥

english translation

tuNDayuddhama athAkAze tAva ubhau saMpracakratuH yudhyatòra apatada retasa taca cApi yamunAmbhasi ॥ 1-57-46 ॥

तत्राद्रिकेति विख्याता बरह्मशापाद वराप्सराः मीनभावम अनुप्राप्ता बभूव यमुना चरी ॥ १-५७-४७ ॥

'And in those waters dwelt an Apsara of the higher rank, known by the name of Adrika, transformed by a Brahmana's curse into a fish.' ॥ 1-57-47 ॥

tatrAdriketi vikhyAtA barahmazApAda varApsarAH mInabhAvama anuprAptA babhUva yamunA carI ॥ 1-57-47 ॥

शयेनपादपरिभ्रष्टं तद वीर्यम अथ वासवम जग्राह तरसॊपेत्य साद्रिका मत्स्यरूपिणी ॥ १-५७-४८ ॥

'As soon as Vasu's seed fell into the water from the claws of the hawk, Adrika rapidly approached and swallowed it at once.' ॥ 1-57-48 ॥

zayenapAdaparibhraSTaM tada vIryama atha vAsavama jagrAha tarasòpetya sAdrikA matsyarUpiNI ॥ 1-57-48 ॥

कदा चिद अथ मत्सीं तां बबन्धुर मत्स्यजीविनः मासे च दशमे पराप्ते तदा भरतसत्तम उज्जह्नुर उदरात तस्याः सत्रीपुमांसं च मानुषम ॥ १-५७-४९ ॥

'As soon as Vasu's seed fell into the water from the claws of the hawk, Adrika rapidly approached and swallowed it at once.' ॥ 1-57-49 ॥

kadA cida atha matsIM tAM babandhura matsyajIvinaH mAse ca dazame parApte tadA bharatasattama ujjahnura udarAta tasyAH satrIpumAMsaM ca mAnuSama ॥ 1-57-49 ॥

आश्चर्यभूतं मत्वा तद राज्ञस ते परत्यवेदयन काये मत्स्या इमौ राजन संभूतौ मानुषाव इति ॥ १-५७-५० ॥

'From the stomach of that fish came out a male and a female child of human form. The fishermen wondered much, and wending unto king Uparichara (for they were his subjects) told him all.' ॥ 1-57-50 ॥

AzcaryabhUtaM matvA tada rAjJasa te paratyavedayana kAye matsyA imau rAjana saMbhUtau mAnuSAva iti ॥ 1-57-50 ॥
