शरुत्वा धर्मिष्ठम आख्यानम आतीकं पुण्यवर्धनम आस्तीकस्य कवेर विप्र शरीमच चरितम आदितः ॥ १-५३-२६ ॥
'Having listened to the righteous and merit-increasing narrative of Astika, the Brahmana Kavi, let the story of Sharika be narrated, O Aditya!' ॥ 1-53-26 ॥

zarutvA dharmiSThama AkhyAnama AtIkaM puNyavardhanama AstIkasya kavera vipra zarImaca caritama AditaH ॥ 1-53-26 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscript[ष] भृगुवंशात परभृत्य एव तवया मे कथितं महत आख्यानम अखिलं तात सौते परीतॊ ऽसमि तेन ते ॥ १-५३-२७ ॥
'O Son, you have narrated to me the entire great story of Sharika, which is a great episode from the Bhrigu lineage, and I am highly pleased with it.' ॥ 1-53-27 ॥
english translation
[Sa] bhRguvaMzAta parabhRtya eva tavayA me kathitaM mahata AkhyAnama akhilaM tAta saute parItò 'sami tena te ॥ 1-53-27 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरक्ष्यामि चैव भूयस तवां यथावत सूतनन्दन यां कथां वयास संपन्नां तां च भूयः परचक्ष्व मे ॥ १-५३-२८ ॥
'Saunaka said, 'O son, you have narrated to me this extensive and great history that begins with the progeny of Bhrigu. O son of Suta, I am greatly pleased with your narration. I request you once again to recount to me, O son of a Suta, the history composed by Vyasa.' ॥ 1-53-28 ॥

parakSyAmi caiva bhUyasa tavAM yathAvata sUtanandana yAM kathAM vayAsa saMpannAM tAM ca bhUyaH paracakSva me ॥ 1-53-28 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्मिन परमदुष्प्रापे सर्पसत्रे महात्मनाम कर्मान्तरेषु विधिवत सदस्यानां महाकवे ॥ १-५३-२९ ॥
'The varied and wonderful narrations that were recited amongst those illustrious Sadasyas assembled at the sacrifice, in the intervals of their duties of that long-extending ceremony, and the objects also of those narrations, I desire to hear from thee, O son of a Suta! Recite, therefore, all those to me fully.' ॥ 1-53-29 ॥

tasmina paramaduSprApe sarpasatre mahAtmanAma karmAntareSu vidhivata sadasyAnAM mahAkave ॥ 1-53-29 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptया बभूवुः कथाश चित्रा येष्व अर्थेषु यथातथम तवत्त इच्छामहे शरॊतुं सौते तवं वै विचक्षणः ॥ १-५३-३० ॥
'Those narratives that became splendid and varied, conveying the meanings accurately, in which I am interested to listen to as you, O wise Sauti, are skilled in narrating.' ॥ 1-53-30 ॥

yA babhUvuH kathAza citrA yeSva artheSu yathAtathama tavatta icchAmahe zaròtuM saute tavaM vai vicakSaNaH ॥ 1-53-30 ॥
