[स] पतिष्यमाणे नागेन्द्रे तक्षके जातवेदसि इदम अन्तरम इत्य एवं तदास्तीकॊ ऽभयचॊदयत ॥ १-५१-१६ ॥
'The Ritwiks said, 'O monarch, behold, Takshaka is soon coming under thy control! His terrible cries and roar are being heard. Assuredly, the snake hath been forsaken by the wielder of thunder. His body being disabled by your mantras, he is falling from heaven.'' ॥ 1-51-16 ॥
english translation
वरं ददासि चेन मह्यं वृणॊमि जनमेजय सत्रं ते विरमत्व एतन न पतेयुर इहॊरगाः ॥ १-५१-१७ ॥
'If you are indeed bestowing a boon upon me, O Janamejaya, then I request that these serpents do not fall here, putting an end to their sacrifice, and may they find peace elsewhere.' ॥ 1-51-17 ॥
english translation
एवम उक्तस ततॊ राजा बरह्मन पारिक्षितस तदा नातिहृष्टमना वाक्यम आस्तीकम इदम अब्रवीत ॥ १-५१-१८ ॥
'O Brahmana, the son of Parikshit, being thus addressed by Astika, became exceedingly sorry and replied unto Astika thus.' ॥ 1-51-18 ॥
english translation
सुवर्णं रजतं गाश च यच चान्यन मन्यसे विभॊ तत ते दद्यां वरं विप्र न निवर्तेत करतुर मम ॥ १-५१-१९ ॥
'O illustrious one, I am ready to offer you gold, silver, cattle, or any other possessions you desire. However, I implore you not to bring an end to my sacrifice.' ॥ 1-51-19 ॥
english translation
[आ] सुवर्णं रजतं गाश च न तवां राजन वृणॊम्य अहम सत्रं ते विरमत्व एतत सवस्ति मातृकुलस्य नः ॥ १-५१-२० ॥
'Astika then responded, "O monarch, I do not seek gold, silver, or cattle from you. Instead, I request the conclusion of your sacrifice to bring relief to my maternal kin."' ॥ 1-51-20 ॥
