तां तु रक्षस ततॊ बरह्मन हृच्छयेनाभिपीडितम दृष्ट्वा हृष्टम अभूत तत्र जिहीर्षुस ताम अनिन्दिताम ॥ १-५-१६ ॥
'Observing the Brahmana's wife distressed by the Rakshasa's advances, Puloma, elated and desiring to possess her, became intent on fulfilling his desires.' ॥ 1-5-16 ॥
english translation
tAM tu rakSasa tatò barahmana hRcchayenAbhipIDitama dRSTvA hRSTama abhUta tatra jihIrSusa tAma aninditAma ॥ 1-5-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअथाग्निशरणे ऽपश्यज जवलितं जातवेदसम तम अपृच्छत ततॊ रक्षः पावकं जवलितं तदा ॥ १-५-१७ ॥
'And the Rakshasa who burnt with desire upon seeing her, became very much delighted and resolved, O good sage, to carry her away who was so blameless in every respect.' ॥ 1-5-17 ॥
english translation
athAgnizaraNe 'pazyaja javalitaM jAtavedasama tama apRcchata tatò rakSaH pAvakaM javalitaM tadA ॥ 1-5-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशंस मे कस्य भार्येयम अग्ने पृष्ट ऋतेन वै सत्यस तवम असि सत्यं मे वद पावकपृच्छते ॥ १-५-१८ ॥
'The purpose is achieved," declared the Rakshasa, and seizing that beautiful woman, he abducted her.' ॥ 1-5-18 ॥
english translation
zaMsa me kasya bhAryeyama agne pRSTa Rtena vai satyasa tavama asi satyaM me vada pAvakapRcchate ॥ 1-5-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमया हीयं पूर्ववृता भार्यार्थे वरवर्णिनी पश्चात तव इमां पिता परादाद भृगवे ऽनृतकारिणे ॥ १-५-१९ ॥
'Certainly, she of charming smiles had initially been given in marriage to him by her father, although later, by proper rituals, she was bestowed upon Bhrigu.' ॥ 1-5-19 ॥

mayA hIyaM pUrvavRtA bhAryArthe varavarNinI pazcAta tava imAM pitA parAdAda bhRgave 'nRtakAriNe ॥ 1-5-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसेयं यदि वरारॊहा भृगॊर भार्या रहॊगता तथा सत्यं समाख्याहि जिहीर्षाम्य आश्रमाद इमाम ॥ १-५-२० ॥
'O scion of the Bhrigu lineage, this grudge festered deeply in the Rakshasa's heart, and he deemed the current moment opportune to seize the lady once again.' ॥ 1-5-20 ॥

seyaM yadi varAròhA bhRgòra bhAryA rahògatA tathA satyaM samAkhyAhi jihIrSAmya AzramAda imAma ॥ 1-5-20 ॥
