दह्यन्ते ऽङगानि मे भद्रे दिशॊ न परतिभान्ति च सीदामीव च संमॊहाद घूर्णतीव च मे मनः ॥ १-४८-२१ ॥
'Expressing his distress, he said, "O kind one, my limbs are ablaze, and the celestial points elude my sight. I am on the verge of losing consciousness, my mind is spinning, my vision is fading, and my heart is shattering."' ॥ 1-48-21 ॥

दृष्टिर भरमति मे ऽतीव हृदयं दीर्यतीव च पतिष्याम्य अवशॊ ऽदयाहं तस्मिन दीप्ते विभावसौ ॥ १-४८-२२ ॥
'My vision is exceedingly blurry, and my heart feels as though it is tearing apart.I am about to collapse helplessly in that radiant and resplendent fire.' ॥ 1-48-22 ॥

पारिक्षितस्य यज्ञॊ ऽसौ वर्तते ऽसमज जिघांसया वयक्तं मयापि गन्तव्यं पितृराज निवेशनम ॥ १-४८-२३ ॥
'Weakened and numb, I might collapse into that fiery inferno today! This ritual conducted by Parikshit's son is intended for the annihilation of our lineage. Clearly, I too will have to proceed to the realm of the lord of death.' ॥ 1-48-23 ॥

अयं स कालः संप्राप्तॊ यदर्थम असि मे सवसः जरत्कारॊः पुरा दत्ता सा तराह्य अस्मान सबान्धवान ॥ १-४८-२४ ॥
'The time has arrived, my sister, for which I entrusted you to Jaratkaru, to safeguard us along with our kith and kin.' ॥ 1-48-24 ॥

आस्तीकः किल यज्ञं तं वर्तन्तं भुजगॊत्तमे परतिषेत्स्यति मां पूर्वं सवयम आह पितामहः ॥ १-४८-२५ ॥
'O best of the women of the snake race, Astika will put an end to the sacrifice that is going on. The Grandsire told me this of old.' ॥ 1-48-25 ॥
