[क] यत्र राजा कुरुश्रेष्ठः परिक्षिन नाम वै दविजः तक्षकेण भुजंगेन धक्ष्यते किल तत्र वै ।। १-४६-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'Kasyapa replied, "O Brahmana, I am heading towards the place where the illustrious king Parikshit, the best of the Kurus, is situated. Today, he will be consumed by the venom of the snake Takshaka."' ।। 1-46-16 ।।

english translation

[ka] yatra rAjA kuruzreSThaH parikSina nAma vai davijaH takSakeNa bhujaMgena dhakSyate kila tatra vai || 1-46-16 ||

hk transliteration

गच्छाम्य अहं तं तवरितः सद्यः कर्तुम अपज्वरम मयाभिपन्नं तं चापि न सर्पॊ धर्षयिष्यति ।। १-४६-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'I am hurrying there to promptly administer the antidote and ensure that, under my protection, the snake does not inflict a fatal bite," replied Kasyapa.' ।। 1-46-17 ।।

english translation

gacchAmya ahaM taM tavaritaH sadyaH kartuma apajvarama mayAbhipannaM taM cApi na sarpò dharSayiSyati || 1-46-17 ||

hk transliteration

[त] किमर्थं तं मया दष्टं संजीवयितुम इच्छसि बरूहि कामम अहं ते ऽदय दद्मि सवं वेश्म गम्यताम ।। १-४६-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'Takshaka replied, "Why do you intend to bring the king back to life just to be bitten by me? I am Takshaka. So saying, Takshaka bit a lord of the forest, a banian tree, and it instantly turned into ashes. However, Kasyapa, O king, revived it."' ।। 1-46-18 ।।

english translation

[ta] kimarthaM taM mayA daSTaM saMjIvayituma icchasi barUhi kAmama ahaM te 'daya dadmi savaM vezma gamyatAma || 1-46-18 ||

hk transliteration

[मन्त्रिणह] धनलिप्सुर अहं तत्र यामीत्य उक्तश च तेन सः तम उवाच महात्मानं मानयञ शलक्ष्णया गिरा ।। १-४६-१९ ।।

sanskrit

'Takshaka then enticed him, saying, 'Reveal your desire.' In response to this, Kasyapa spoke to Takshaka, stating, 'I am going there with the intention of acquiring wealth.' Takshaka, upon hearing this, replied to the noble Kasyapa with gentle words.' ।। 1-46-19 ।।

english translation

[mantriNaha] dhanalipsura ahaM tatra yAmItya uktaza ca tena saH tama uvAca mahAtmAnaM mAnayaJa zalakSNayA girA || 1-46-19 ||

hk transliteration

यावद धनं परार्थयसे तस्माद राज्ञस ततॊ ऽधिकम गृहाण मत्त एव तवं संनिवर्तस्व चानघ ।। १-४६-२० ।।

sanskrit

'O virtuous one, accept from me wealth greater than what you seek from the king and then return.' ।। 1-46-20 ।।

english translation

yAvada dhanaM parArthayase tasmAda rAjJasa tatò 'dhikama gRhANa matta eva tavaM saMnivartasva cAnagha || 1-46-20 ||
