[मन्त्रिणह] ततः स राजा राजेन्द्र सकन्धे तस्य भुजंगमम मुनेः कषुत कषाम आसज्य सवपुरं पुनर आययौ ।। १-४६-१ ।।

sanskrit

'Continuing his narrative, Sauti stated, 'The ministers recounted that the exhausted king, after placing the snake on the sage's shoulders, returned to his capital, wearied by hunger and exertion.'' ।। 1-46-1 ।।

english translation

[mantriNaha] tataH sa rAjA rAjendra sakandhe tasya bhujaMgamama muneH kaSuta kaSAma Asajya savapuraM punara Ayayau || 1-46-1 ||

ऋषेस तस्य तु पुत्रॊ ऽभूद गवि जातॊ महायशाः शृङ्गी नाम महातेजास तिग्मवीर्यॊ ऽतिकॊपनः ।। १-४६-२ ।।

sanskrit

'The Muni had a son, born of a cow, of the name of Sringin. He was widely known, possessed of great prowess and energy, and very wrathful.' ।। 1-46-2 ।।

english translation

RSesa tasya tu putrò 'bhUda gavi jAtò mahAyazAH zRGgI nAma mahAtejAsa tigmavIryò 'tikòpanaH || 1-46-2 ||

बरह्माणं सॊ ऽभयुपागम्य मुनिः पूजां चकार ह अनुज्ञातॊ गतस तत्र शृङ्गी शुश्राव तं तदा सख्युः सकाशात पितरं पित्रा ते धर्षितं तथा ।। १-४६-३ ।।

sanskrit

'Going (every day) to his preceptor he was in the habit of worshipping him. Commanded by him, Sringin was returning home, when he heard from a friend of his about the insult of his father by thy parent.' ।। 1-46-3 ।।

english translation

barahmANaM sò 'bhayupAgamya muniH pUjAM cakAra ha anujJAtò gatasa tatra zRGgI zuzrAva taM tadA sakhyuH sakAzAta pitaraM pitrA te dharSitaM tathA || 1-46-3 ||

hk transliteration

मृतं सर्पं समासक्तं पित्रा ते जनमेजय वहन्तं कुरुशार्दूल सकन्धेनानपकारिणम ।। १-४६-४ ।।

sanskrit

'And, O tiger among kings, he heard that his father, without having committed any fault, was bearing, motionless like a statue, upon his shoulders a dead snake placed thereon.' ।। 1-46-4 ।।

english translation

mRtaM sarpaM samAsaktaM pitrA te janamejaya vahantaM kuruzArdUla sakandhenAnapakAriNama || 1-46-4 ||

hk transliteration

तपस्विनम अतीवाथ तं मुनिप्रवरं नृप जितेन्द्रिय विशुद्धं च सथितं कर्मण्य अथाद्भुते ।। १-४६-५ ।।

sanskrit

'O king, the sage who was insulted by your father was a severe ascetic, the foremost among Munis, a master of self-control, pure, and constantly involved in extraordinary deeds.' ।। 1-46-5 ।।

english translation

tapasvinama atIvAtha taM munipravaraM nRpa jitendriya vizuddhaM ca sathitaM karmaNya athAdbhute || 1-46-5 ||
