करिष्ये वः परियं कामं निवेक्ष्ये नात्र संशयः सनाम्नीं यद्य अहं कन्याम उपलप्स्ये कदा चन ।। १-४२-६ ।।

sanskrit

'I shall fulfill your desire, and there is no doubt about it. If I obtain a suitable bride, I will accept her name someday.' ।। 1-42-6 ।।

english translation

kariSye vaH pariyaM kAmaM nivekSye nAtra saMzayaH sanAmnIM yadya ahaM kanyAma upalapsye kadA cana || 1-42-6 ||

भविष्यति च या का चिद भैक्षवत सवयम उद्यता परतिग्रहीता ताम अस्मि न भरेयं च याम अहम ।। १-४२-७ ।।

sanskrit

'I will marry the one who, offering herself willingly, will be self-sufficient, and whom I will not have to support. I will only marry if I find such a person; otherwise, I will not.' ।। 1-42-7 ।।

english translation

bhaviSyati ca yA kA cida bhaikSavata savayama udyatA paratigrahItA tAma asmi na bhareyaM ca yAma ahama || 1-42-7 ||

एवंविधम अहं कुर्यां निवेशं पराप्नुयां यदि अन्यथा न करिष्ये तु सत्यम एतत पितामहाः ।। १-४२-८ ।।

'This is the truth, O venerable ancestors! The progeny begotten upon her shall be the means of your salvation. And, O my Pitris, you shall live eternally in bliss and without fear.' ।। 1-42-8 ।।

evaMvidhama ahaM kuryAM nivezaM parApnuyAM yadi anyathA na kariSye tu satyama etata pitAmahAH || 1-42-8 ||

'Sauti continued, 'After speaking thus to the ancestors, the sage roamed the earth once more. However, being old, he did not find a wife.' ।। 1-42-9 ।।

[sa] evama uktvA tu sa pitRRMza cacAra pRthivIM muniH na ca sama labhate bhAryAM vRddhò 'yama iti zaunaka || 1-42-9 ||

'And he grieved much that he was not successful. But directed (as before) by his ancestors, he continued the search. And going into the forest, he wept loudly in great grief.' ।। 1-42-10 ।।

yadA nirvedama ApannaH pitRbhiza còditasa tathA tadAraNyaM sa gatvòccaiza cukròza bhRzaduHkhitaH || 1-42-10 ||
