करिष्ये वः परियं कामं निवेक्ष्ये नात्र संशयः सनाम्नीं यद्य अहं कन्याम उपलप्स्ये कदा चन ॥ १-४२-६ ॥
'I shall fulfill your desire, and there is no doubt about it. If I obtain a suitable bride, I will accept her name someday.' ॥ 1-42-6 ॥
english translation
भविष्यति च या का चिद भैक्षवत सवयम उद्यता परतिग्रहीता ताम अस्मि न भरेयं च याम अहम ॥ १-४२-७ ॥
'I will marry the one who, offering herself willingly, will be self-sufficient, and whom I will not have to support. I will only marry if I find such a person; otherwise, I will not.' ॥ 1-42-7 ॥
english translation
एवंविधम अहं कुर्यां निवेशं पराप्नुयां यदि अन्यथा न करिष्ये तु सत्यम एतत पितामहाः ॥ १-४२-८ ॥
'This is the truth, O venerable ancestors! The progeny begotten upon her shall be the means of your salvation. And, O my Pitris, you shall live eternally in bliss and without fear.' ॥ 1-42-8 ॥
english translation
[स] एवम उक्त्वा तु स पितॄंश चचार पृथिवीं मुनिः न च सम लभते भार्यां वृद्धॊ ऽयम इति शौनक ॥ १-४२-९ ॥
'Sauti continued, 'After speaking thus to the ancestors, the sage roamed the earth once more. However, being old, he did not find a wife.' ॥ 1-42-9 ॥
english translation
यदा निर्वेदम आपन्नः पितृभिश चॊदितस तथा तदारण्यं स गत्वॊच्चैश चुक्रॊश भृशदुःखितः ॥ १-४२-१० ॥
'And he grieved much that he was not successful. But directed (as before) by his ancestors, he continued the search. And going into the forest, he wept loudly in great grief.' ॥ 1-42-10 ॥
