मया तु शमम आस्थाय यच छक्यं कर्तुम अद्य वै तत करिष्ये ऽदय ताताहं परेषयिष्ये नृपाय वै ॥ १-३८-११ ॥
'But for now, I will practice patience and do what is possible. O father, today I will act accordingly. Tomorrow, I will do what is beneficial for the king.' ॥ 1-38-11 ॥

मम पुत्रेण शप्तॊ ऽसि बालेनाकृत बुद्धिना ममेमां धर्षणां तवत्तः परेक्ष्य राजन्न अमर्षिणा ॥ १-३८-१२ ॥
'Informing the monarch, "O ruler, my son, who is young and still developing in intellect, has uttered a curse out of anger upon witnessing your disrespectful actions towards me."' ॥ 1-38-12 ॥

[स] एवमादिश्य शिष्यं स परेषयाम आस सुव्रतः परिक्षिते नृपतये दयापन्नॊ महातपाः ॥ १-३८-१३ ॥
'Sauti continued, 'And that great ascetic, observer of vows, moved by kindness, sent with proper instructions a disciple of his to king Parikshit.' ॥ 1-38-13 ॥

संदिश्य कुशलप्रश्नं कार्यवृत्तान्तम एव च शिष्यं गौर मुखं नाम शीलवन्तं समाहितम ॥ १-३८-१४ ॥
'And he sent his disciple Gaurmukha of good manners and engaged also in ascetic penances, instructing him to first enquire about the king's welfare and then to communicate the real message.' ॥ 1-38-14 ॥

सॊ ऽभिगम्य ततः शीघ्रं नरेन्द्रं कुरुवर्धनम विवेश भवनं राज्ञः पूर्वं दवाःस्थैर निवेदितः ॥ १-३८-१५ ॥
'And that disciple soon approached that monarch, the head of the Kuru race. And he entered the king's palace having first sent notice of his arrival through the servant in attendance at the gate.' ॥ 1-38-15 ॥
