[बर] अधॊ महीं गच्छ भुजंगमॊत्तम; सवयं तवैषा विवरं परदास्यति इमां धरां धारयता तवया हि मे; महत परियं शेषकृतं भविष्यति ।। १-३२-२१ ।।

sanskrit

'Brahman said, 'O noble serpent, descend beneath the Earth. She will naturally provide you with a passage. O Sesha, by supporting the Earth, you will indeed accomplish what is of great value to me.'" ।। 1-32-21 ।।

english translation

[bara] adhò mahIM gaccha bhujaMgamòttama; savayaM tavaiSA vivaraM paradAsyati imAM dharAM dhArayatA tavayA hi me; mahata pariyaM zeSakRtaM bhaviSyati || 1-32-21 ||

[स] तथेति कृत्वा विवरं परविश्य स; परभुर भुवॊ भुजग वराग्रजः सथितः बिभर्ति देवीं शिरसा महीम इमां; समुद्रनेमिं परिगृह्य सर्वतः ।। १-३२-२२ ।।

'Sauti continued, 'Then the elder brother of the king of the snakes, entering a hole, passed to the other side of the Earth, and holding her, supported with his head that goddess with her belt of seas passing all round.' ।। 1-32-22 ।।

[sa] tatheti kRtvA vivaraM paravizya sa; parabhura bhuvò bhujaga varAgrajaH sathitaH bibharti devIM zirasA mahIma imAM; samudranemiM parigRhya sarvataH || 1-32-22 ||

'Brahman said, 'O Sesha, O best of serpents, you are the embodiment of righteousness, for you alone, with your immense form, sustain the Earth along with everything on her, just as I, or Valavit (Indra), can.'" ।। 1-32-23 ।।

[bara] zeSò 'si nAgòttama dharmadevò; mahIma imAM dhArayase yada ekaH ananta bhògaH parigRhya sarvAM; yathAhama evaM balabhida yathA vA || 1-32-23 ||

'Sauti continued, 'The snake, Sesha, the lord Ananta, of great prowess, lives underneath the Earth, alone supporting the world at the command of Brahman.' ।। 1-32-24 ।।

[sa] adhò bhUmera vasatya evaM nAgò 'nantaH paratApavAna dhArayana vasudhAma ekaH zAsanAda barahmaNò vibhuH || 1-32-24 ||

'And the illustrious Grandsire, the best of the immortals, then gave unto Ananta the bird of fair feathers, viz., the son of Vinata, for Ananta's help.' ।। 1-32-25 ।।
