अथॊत्तङ्कः शीतम अन्नं सकेशं दृष्ट्वाशुच्य एतद इति मत्वा पौष्यम उवाच यस्मान मे अशुच्य अन्नं ददासि तस्मद अन्धॊ भविष्यसीति ।। १-३-१२६ ।।

sanskrit

'And Utanka seeing that the food placed before him had hair in it, and also that it was cold, thought it unclean. And he said unto Paushya, 'Thou givest me food that is unclean, therefore shalt thou lose thy sight.' ।। 1-3-126 ।।

english translation

athòttaGkaH zItama annaM sakezaM dRSTvAzucya etada iti matvA pauSyama uvAca yasmAna me azucya annaM dadAsi tasmada andhò bhaviSyasIti || 1-3-126 ||

तं पौष्यः परत्युवाच यस्मात तवम अप्य अदुष्टम अन्नं दूषयसि तस्माद अनपत्यॊ भविष्यसीति ।। १-३-१२७ ।।

sanskrit

'Paushya replied, "Because you unjustly accuse pure food of impurity, you shall henceforth be without offspring." ।। 1-3-127 ।।

english translation

taM pauSyaH paratyuvAca yasmAta tavama apya aduSTama annaM dUSayasi tasmAda anapatyò bhaviSyasIti || 1-3-127 ||

सॊ ऽथ पौष्यस तस्याशुचि भावम अन्नस्यागमयाम आस ।। १-३-१२८ ।।

sanskrit

'Utanka responded, "It is inappropriate for you to curse me after presenting impure food. Verify for yourself through direct observation." ।। 1-3-128 ।।

अथ तदन्नं मुक्तकेश्या सत्रियॊपहृतं सकेशम अशुचि मत्वॊत्तङ्कं परसादयाम आस भगवन्न अज्ञानाद एतद अन्नं सकेशम उपहृतं शीतं च तत कषामये भवन्तम न भवेयम अन्ध इति ।। १-३-१२९ ।।

'And Paushya seeing the food alleged to be unclean satisfied himself of its uncleanliness. And Paushya having ascertained that the food was truly unclean, being cold and mixed with hair, prepared as it was by a woman with unbraided hair, began to pacify the Rishi Utanka, saying, 'Sir, the food placed before thee is cold, and doth contain hair, having been prepared without sufficient care. Therefore I pray thee pardon me. Let me not become blind." ।। 1-3-129 ।।

english translation

atha tadannaM muktakezyA satriyòpahRtaM sakezama azuci matvòttaGkaM parasAdayAma Asa bhagavanna ajJAnAda etada annaM sakezama upahRtaM zItaM ca tata kaSAmaye bhavantama na bhaveyama andha iti || 1-3-129 ||

तम उत्तङ्कः परत्युवाच न मृषा बरवीमि भूत्वा तवम अन्धॊ नचिराद अनन्धॊ भविष्यसीति ममापि शापॊ न भवेद भवता दत्त इति ।। १-३-१३० ।।

'Utanka responded, "My words will inevitably be realized. Although you may experience temporary blindness, you will soon regain your sight. Let it be that your curse also does not find its fulfillment upon me." ।। 1-3-130 ।।

english translation

tama uttaGkaH paratyuvAca na mRSA baravImi bhUtvA tavama andhò nacirAda anandhò bhaviSyasIti mamApi zApò na bhaveda bhavatA datta iti || 1-3-130 ||
