स विचिन्त्याब्रवीत पक्षी मातरं विनतां तदा किं कारणं मया मातः कर्तव्यं सर्पभाषितम ॥ १-२३-८ ॥

'Garuda, after contemplating for a brief moment, inquired of his mother Vinata, 'Mother, why am I compelled to carry out the requests of the serpents?' ॥ 1-23-8 ॥

sa vicintyAbravIta pakSI mAtaraM vinatAM tadA kiM kAraNaM mayA mAtaH kartavyaM sarpabhASitama ॥ 1-23-8 ॥
