तम अब्रवीन मन्दपालः पराञ्जलिर हव्यवाहनम परदहन खाण्डवं दावं मम पुत्रान विसर्जय ॥ १-२२०-३१ ॥

sanskrit

'Then, with palms joined, Mandapala said to the carrier of clarified butter (Agni), "While you burn the forest of Khandava, please spare my children."' ॥ 1-220-31 ॥

english translation

tama abravIna mandapAlaH parAJjalira havyavAhanama paradahana khANDavaM dAvaM mama putrAna visarjaya ॥ 1-220-31 ॥

तथेति तत परतिश्रुत्य भगवान हव्यवाहनः खाण्डवे तेन कालेन परजज्वाल दिधक्षया ॥ १-२२०-३२ ॥

'The illustrious carrier of clarified butter replied, "So be it." Therefore, O monarch, he blazed not fiercely while consuming the forest of Khandava, sparing Mandapala's children from destruction.' ॥ 1-220-32 ॥

english translation

tatheti tata paratizrutya bhagavAna havyavAhanaH khANDave tena kAlena parajajvAla didhakSayA ॥ 1-220-32 ॥
