तांस तथॊत्पततः पार्थः शरैः संछिद्य खण्डशः दीप्यमाने ततः परास्यत परहसन कृष्णवर्त्मनि ॥ १-२१७-११ ॥
'Arjuna's arrows pierced the birds that attempted to flee from the conflagration. Severed into pieces, they fell into the blazing fire below.' ॥ 1-217-11 ॥
english translation
ते शराचित सर्वाङ्गा विनदन्तॊ महारवान ऊर्ध्वम उत्पत्य वेगेन निपेतुः पावके पुनः ॥ १-२१७-१२ ॥
'Struck by arrows all over their bodies, they emitted loud cries of distress and, trying to fly upwards swiftly, fell back into the fire again.' ॥ 1-217-12 ॥

शरैर अभ्याहतानां च दह्यतां च वनौकसाम विरावः शरूयते ह सम समुद्रस्येव मथ्यतः ॥ १-२१७-१३ ॥
'The inhabitants of the forest, struck by those arrows, began to roar and yell in pain. The clamor they raised resembled the frightful uproar heard during the churning of the ocean in ancient times.' ॥ 1-217-13 ॥

वह्नेश चापि परहृष्टस्य खम उत्पेतुर महार्चिषः जनयाम आसुर उद्वेगं सुमहान्तं दिवौकसाम ॥ १-२१७-१४ ॥
'The mighty flames of the blazing fire, reaching up to the firmament, caused great anxiety even among the celestial beings themselves.' ॥ 1-217-14 ॥

ततॊ जग्मुर महात्मानः सर्व एव दिवौकसः शरणं देवराजानं सहस्राक्षं पुरंदरम ॥ १-२१७-१५ ॥
'Then all the illustrious inhabitants of heaven collectively approached their chief, the lord of a hundred sacrifices and thousand eyes, who is known as the destroyer of Asuras.' ॥ 1-217-15 ॥
