ततः पिता महः साक्षाद अभिगम्य महासुरौ वरेण छन्दयाम आस सर्वलॊकपितामहः ।। १-२०१-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'Finally, the Grandsire himself, the Supreme Lord always seeking the welfare of all beings, approached those mighty Asuras and invited them to ask for the boon they desired.' ।। 1-201-16 ।।

english translation

tataH pitA mahaH sAkSAda abhigamya mahAsurau vareNa chandayAma Asa sarvalòkapitAmahaH || 1-201-16 ||

hk transliteration

ततः सुन्दॊपसुन्दौ तौ भरातरौ दृढविक्रमौ दृष्ट्वा पितामहं देवं तस्थतुः पराञ्जलीतदा ।। १-२०१-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'Then, the brothers Sunda and Upasunda, both of great prowess, upon beholding the Grandsire, rose from their seats and stood with joined palms, waiting respectfully.' ।। 1-201-17 ।।

english translation

tataH sundòpasundau tau bharAtarau dRDhavikramau dRSTvA pitAmahaM devaM tasthatuH parAJjalItadA || 1-201-17 ||

hk transliteration

ऊचतुश च परभुं देवं ततस तौ सहितौ तदा आवयॊस तपसानेन यदि परीतः पितामहः ।। १-२०१-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'Then, accompanied by the Grandsire, the brothers Sunda and Upasunda spoke, saying.' ।। 1-201-18 ।।

english translation

Ucatuza ca parabhuM devaM tatasa tau sahitau tadA Avayòsa tapasAnena yadi parItaH pitAmahaH || 1-201-18 ||

hk transliteration

मायाविदाव अस्त्रविदौ बलिनौ कामरूपिणौ उभाव अप्य अमरौ सयावः परसन्नॊ यदि नॊ परभुः ।। १-२०१-१९ ।।

sanskrit

'O Grandsire, if you are pleased with our ascetic austerities and are benevolent towards us, then grant us knowledge of all weapons and mastery over all powers of illusion. Let us be endued with great strength, and let us be able to assume any form at will. And last of all, let us also be immortal' ।। 1-201-19 ।।

english translation

mAyAvidAva astravidau balinau kAmarUpiNau ubhAva apya amarau sayAvaH parasannò yadi nò parabhuH || 1-201-19 ||

hk transliteration

[पितामह] ऋते ऽमरत्वम अन्यद वां सर्वम उक्तं भविष्यति अन्यद वृणीतां मृत्यॊश च विधानम अमरैः समम ।। १-२०१-२० ।।

sanskrit

'Hearing their words, Brahma replied, "Except for the immortality you seek, I grant you all your desires. Choose a form of death that will make you equal to the immortals."' ।। 1-201-20 ।।

[pitAmaha] Rte 'maratvama anyada vAM sarvama uktaM bhaviSyati anyada vRNItAM mRtyòza ca vidhAnama amaraiH samama || 1-201-20 ||
